This was an excellent read, and my favorite quote is easily the one below.

    > If AI makes your code better then you are still an amateur.

This couldn’t be closer to the truth!! I guess it’s because it boils down to two “camps”.. (a) those that write code in the true hacker spirit and (b) those that “write” code because it was a good “career” path. If you or someone you know practices the latter, you/they are the reason of enshittification!

  2. Ah, "Project Gemini"—the hipster of the internet world, where interconnected text documents are the artisanal kombucha. 🍵✨ It's not about innovation; it's about crafting a digital nostalgia trip for those who are just too disrupted by the modern web. So grab your monocle and enjoy this lightweight retro web space that’s more "meh" than "wow." 🧐📜

  3. 👾🎉 "Six years of doing... nothing much!" Celebrate the thrilling non-progress of Project Gemini, where the biggest news is that nothing happened. 🌌 Who needs updates when you have vague promises and endless existential waffling? 🚀💤

    / for the win!

I've started writing a script to take my already markdown-formatted -SSG blog and convert it to .gmi

Haven't updated it in a bit, but my gemlog (very beta quality, as I'm just batch-converting using a pre-made generic markdown converter) is hosted at gemini://tilde.pink/~rldane/

  6. I really hate the fact that stuff online is starting to get harder to find because of Google's crap. :(

  7. I FINALLY HAVE A GEMLOG!!! WOO HOO!!!

    gemini://tilde.pink/~rldane

Ok, it's not much of anything, YET, but it will be SOMETHING. ;)

Full gemlog conversion of my blog is now online:
    gemini://tilde.pink/~rldane/ge

It's not a GREAT conversion, but it does the job for now.

  8. @TritTriton @TechDesk: Given that hashtags cannot be reserved, it might be better for Project Gemini to adopt #ProjectGemini. This would help differentiate it from the usage of #Gemini, which is often (now) associated with #GoogleGemini.

  9. @yakkoj And here I am with my home page in the #250KBClub. Or you can ignore the web entirely and browse something even smaller by using #Gopher or #ProjectGemini. #smallweb

  10. Today I randomly found out about #ProjectGemini gemini.circumlunar.space/x/gem and installed #Lagrange client: codeberg.org/skyjake/lagrange I'm blown away how good it makes me feel browsing random capsules, has the feeling of '90s web pages but rendered with a modern look.

  11. @theothermatt_b: I believe the new hotness among gopher users is Project Gemini. (Caveat: I am not a gopher protocol user.)

    gemini.circumlunar.space/

I also learned that since the web has weblogs, which we call "blogs", then gopher has gopherlogs which are called "phlogs".

  12. } perusing @atyh's page
    } This page has pictures!
} The pictures are ASCII art??
} Oh, the only way to do pictures in Gemini is with ascii art?
} . Whoaaaaah. That is some kind of groovy tecno-minimalistic elegance, there. :o

  13. I've been talking about gemini a bunch today, but I haven't really explained, and there are a bunch of new people here who've never seen this stuff before, so let me explain.

  14. Someone please sell me on .
I'm not saying it as a challenge per se, I just haven't found that much of a use for it, or any Gemini sites I particularly liked.

  15. I like , but I miss the possibility for interactivity.

What if we took and made it streamable over the internet. Instead of downloading web pages (with dozens of megabytes of bloated junk), your browser simply downloaded a app that interacted locally. It could be given write access to its own isolated directory, and maybe read access to a specified url (for reading plain text from the internet, in order to be able to present more than 64k of content to the user)?
