Gibts hier Leute die in einem HP #ProDesk 600 SFF G5 die CPU gewechselt haben und dabei nicht einen der verkafuten CPUs eingebaut haben?
(möchte gern einen i5 9400>T< einbauen) -
My old Tiny PC is getting more and more buggy, among other things the USB ports no longer work properly, whether the ones directly on the back of the mainboard or the two on the front of the case, which are connected to the MB with a cable... plus the already old Ryzen 5 3400G processor...
The situation really calls for something “new”, and in this case I would like to fall back on a refurbished device. It doesn't always have to be new, and many business devices are still more than usable. Especially with Linux. Besides, I already have a new device with the Beelink SER7.
After a bit of research, I'm currently considering an HP ProDesk 600 G6 SFF. I like the modular chassis concept, everything is easily accessible and well thought out. No comparison with cheap customer devices.
To illustrate this, I'll link an HP support video showing how well swapping components works. Now I just have to find a good offer...

@r_em_y @geerlingguy the only exception of 10" never being used is in AV gear, as those started with huge 19" mountable tube amps and nowadays still use that instead.
Personally, I do like 10" and 19" and a lot of "smol" desktops like the #ThinkCentre Tiny / #ThinkStation Tiny and #ProDesk Mini / #EliteDesk Mini fit neatly alone in 10" and 19" together...

I've even seen 19" Dual-ITX and 10" ITX cases for mini servers...

Small #esxi #hypervisor for testing is up and running. Packed with two #nvme drives and 16GB of ram, this will be more then enough for some #vm testing.
Also, #synology #activebackupforbusiness will cover the #backup for it and test out how things work with the new version 8.
Used #pxe boot of a #synology #nas in legacy mode.

Time to hook it up with #iscsi for some massive storage options.

#TinyMiniMicro gang ❤️
My 4 HP minis, used for various #homelab shenanigans.
From bottom to top:
- HP #Prodesk 400 G1 - Core i3 2c/4t - 16GB
- HP #Prodesk 400 G2 - Celeron 2c/2t - 8GB
- HP #Prodesk 400 G3 - Pentium 2c/2t - 16GB
- HP #Elitedesk 800 G3 65w - Core i5 4c/4t - 32GBI cannot insist enough about how perfect these machines are for tinkerers like us.
Low power (7w in idle) but powerful, compact, and cheap as hell on the used market. (I scored the 3 lower ones for less than 50€ each) -

@zeh
I'm a bit familiar with this line of products: used HP #Prodesk/#Elitedesk Mini are great choices for #homelab and servers at home :)I bought it used from "leboncoin", the equivalent of Craigslist in France.
There are also tons of them on eBay 🙂
This is the kind of machines that big corps get by hundreds as desktops for their employees, they renew them every 3/5 years, then they land on the used market.A great intro to these machines: https://www.servethehome.com/introducing-project-tinyminimicro-home-lab-revolution/
