  1. As a food culture writer, I LOVE this sort of column: shining a light on food cultures often left out of the mainstream spotlight. And (of course trying new-to-me foods)

Here's my column about cuisines that aren’t found elsewhere in the area

Re: (3.) there is nothing like the speed and freedom of a bike for getting around a small town. So many route options and sidecuts.

  3. Time I posted some photos again.

Been pouring lots into Linux and helping a friend study for a building code exam - remarkably similar systems.

Anyway, here are some cycling pics.

  4. This week, I brewed up something tasty for the CBCKW food column!

Stratford’s Karen Hartwick is one of Canada’s first certified tea sommeliers! For more than 20 years, she’s been sharing her passion for, introducing people to, and blending teas at her tea bar, Tea Leaves. We talked about her journey, the different categories, ways to pair tea with food.

  5. From this morning’s dog walk.

The Milverton Line crossing the Avon River east of Lake Victoria.

Sometimes the compositions take care of themselves; all you have to do is point a lens at them.

  6. Another Stratford medley.

    Late fall.

Yesterday, perhaps the last XC cycle of the season: 55 km to Mitchell in 7C NW winds (photo 1). The rest: Warriors vs. Sarnia last Friday in our 100-yo Allman Arena; Xmas decos near Cambria & West Gore; house on Queen in ‘stick season’ as they call it in Vermont.

No snow as yet—odd, unusual, but not unheard of…

  7. Okay, enough realist politics (great name for a party, tho, huh? has anyone used it?)

    Near Carlingford Ontario.

A cycle of 70 km today; heavy overcast, steady drizzle; enjoyable all the same: little wind & gear performed as expected—outrageous, right?—rides of 2.5 hrs in wet, single-digit Celsius temps going well now. It’s like being on the sea in a kayak somewhat.

  8. Stratford’s lone rail trail, whose chief blessing is this short refurbished timber-pylon viaduct over the Avon. I like framing these pics so as to remove as many hints of modern life as possible and to minimize any remaining, the idea being they serve as departure points for the viewer’s imagination…

  12. More local colour - today’s cycle out on Southwest Ontario’s high plains in the stiff wind leading an approaching cold front.

  13. I suspect this weekend will prove to have been peak here in Stratford.

Hard to imagine next weekend outdoing it with so many leaves now hitting the ground…

  14. Wednesday - 143 km out-&-back to #Blyth. These four frames in or near Blyth, including one of the last standing water towers from the age of steam. The last frame is where the long gone London Huron & Bruce line passed over Blyth Brook, steps from where it overflew (via the viaduct seen in my prior post) the former Guelph-Goderich line, now the rail trail we are on.
