@lkanies @hmm_cook It may be worth clarifying what we’re motivating our #neurodifferent kids FOR?
We maintain #routines for daily living needs… getting ready school, homework, bath and bed time.
For #interests, it’s best to let them self-pilot. We can introduce them to new things and see what sticks. But are #allistic kids so malleable that it works differently for them? If anything, we worked to maintain multiple interests.

@zigi_now9 My son sometimes laughs when stressed. For myself I tend to shut down and zone out, so my expression tends to go more flat than usual.
If I have to fake smiles intentionally, it’s just long enough to flee dangerous allistic situations, including work. I include in “dangerous” situations where expressing honestly would be labeled “bad.”

Been distracted this past week. By what? Husband’s visit from business travel ended. And the very evening we dropped him at the airport my son’s gifted Kindle experienced #LiIon battery #outgassing. Smoke and soot abound!
I had a crash course in #PoisonControl, smoke abatement, and #hazmat testing. And restocking clothes and linens.
No one was injured. By some miracle nothing ignited.

Been seeking community and connection. I’m emerging from a dark period of the last few months, triggered by setbacks for my son at school. We’re on an upswing and better path now. I hope that it isn’t disrupted. I need it not to be. I’m learning that I need to #unmask more with school staff and clearly communicate the harm this BS causes. It’s too easy for them to gloss over and ignore. I simply won’t weather it any more. #ActuallyAutistic #ParentingWhileAutistic #AutisticAF #AutisticParenting

@actuallyautistic Well I got a reply from school today. Director reports that staff have met, and will be taking better care to better contextualize and avoid #pathologizing my son’s behavior. Promise made. Promise kept? Time will tell.
His 1:1 started yesterday. Observing for low but will probably start working with him next week. 🤞🤞🙏
