  2. cOAllition S emphasizes that support for its Transformative Journal programme will cease by the end of this year.

Is there an argument that even this is too late?

That a lot of damage has already been done through:

    1) @cOAlitionS_OA's tacit positioning of APCs as the main model for paying for open access, the enshrining of this model, and the introduction of it in places where it did not operate previously?

    2) the embedding of this APC model in some organisational budgets?

    3) the ensuing extraction of large amounts of money from the higher education system over the period between the launch of cOAllition S in 2018 and the end of this programme 2024?

  3. We're delighted to announce the publication from Open Humanities Press of Dark Botany: The Herbarium Tales, edited by Prudence Gibson, Sigi Jottkandt, Marie Sierra and Anna Westbrook.

Available in open access and print:

    openhumanitiespress.org/books/

Dark Botany activates the material and sensorial wonder of plants. In this Wunderkammer of critical plant studies essays and plant+artworks, the herbarium emerges as a site of multiple materialities and reflexive forms of counter-narrative. Herbaria specimens come alive as assemblages, telling truths about their dark histories and darker contemporary currents, while reflecting on the complexity of texture, movement, memory, compound structure, chemical emissions and rapid evolution of plants and languages. What one discovers is that herbaria are not static: they are as vital, energetic and enigmatic as the plants in their collections.

  10. It's already week 2 of my #ResearchLeave 😱
Last week was mostly spent picking up loose ends and doing lots of the #InvisibleWork of research, like documenting, tidying, archiving, and depositing various data sets and related materials. These are time-consuming and often frustrating tasks. We can be honest here, and not fool ourselves and others.
For the time being, the "credit" or "merit" we get from doing #OpenResearch #OpenHumanities is benign even though it might be the right thing to do…

  19. This is part of the University of Oslo Library's research partnership initiative: research librarians at UBO spend 20% of their work time at the departments/institutes they are responsible for. This partnership goes beyond the traditional role of "subject librarian." We're supporting digital research activities, open science/humanities, data management, digital methods, tools and software; individual and project partnerships; tailored workshops and tutorials. #OpenHumanities #DigitalHumanities

  20. Throwback to this golden classic tweet that overlooked major fields in the sciences and humanities... and yet, Jennifer Edmond's keynote at #DHd2023 does ask nuanced questions about what contribution to digital technology and understanding of openness (re. big data & complex knowledge, etc) can the humanities really bring, without just taking it for granted that everyone coming to the field will know everything about STS and critical cultural studies, etc.

Big thanks to the #DHd2023 orga team this year for top notch keynotes! #DH #openculture #openhumanities #openscience

  21. Kudos to all the Digital Activists and to our #dhd2023 keynote speakers for saving Ukrainian Digital Heritage and reminding us of the value Digital Humanities and open tools and commons may have beyond academia!
