I wish I could experience total darkness outside. A darkness which every human was familiar with before the advent of electric, widespread artificial light. It intrigues me how much this particular invention changed this aspect of human life.
Not many people today are familiar with the kind of darkness that was the norm for almost all of our species existence. There are actually surprisingly few places left on this planet where one can experience such a state of existence. Were I to travel to the most remote location in my home country, it would still not be far enough from civilisation.
It would be pretty dark, but it would still not be as dark as it could be.
While I can always blindfold myself, it is not the same thing. I yearn to step outside at night, and feel complete darkness envelop me like a blanket. To wonder that primordial feeling of "is there something there, or am I alone?"
