Now reading Hekate, by Nikita Gill, the August pick for the #Edinburgh SF Book Group. Greek mythology, one of my first loves as a young reader. Classical Studies was the only subject where I won the school prize.

Hymn for Every Version of You This New Year

Be more present for the universes inside you. Make more pilgrimages to the interiors of your own heart. Clear away the smoke, the wreckage that tries to convince you that you do not deserve joy.

Tell your friends you love them more often. Tell good people they are needed; include yourself in that list. When love comes knocking, do not doubt it. Instead open the door with warmth and let it in.

When grief claws at your window, don't ignore it. Instead, hold it close and let it stay as long as it needs. Do not let the lamp of hope dim in the chaos that descends.

May peace know you by name. May you be greeted by birdsong often. May hope curl up like a well loved old dog at the end of your bed every night.

And when the ruins of your past call your name, remember the monument of courage you built in their place.
