National Radio Day in the U.S.
On this day in 1920, radio station 8MK (now WWJ), owned by the Detroit News, began its first regular broadcast schedule. It is often claimed as the first regularly scheduled commercial radio broadcast in the United States.
The FCC, however, claims that it was KDKA, on November 2, 1920. There were other “radiophone” broadcast stations even earlier.
