Digital pay-as-you-go rail ticketing trials across #Yorkshire and the East #Midlands have been expanded to unlimited passengers following early success. The scheme, operated by Northern #Railway ahead of the launch of Great #British #Railways, uses a GPS-enabled app to calculate the lowest fare automatically, removing the need for physical check-ins or advance ticket purchases.

Following more than 30,000 trips across the initial Leeds–Harrogate and Doncaster–Sheffield lines, passenger caps have been removed, and a third route connecting Leicester to Nottingham via Derby has been added to the project. Extended until September 2027, the trial forms part of a £156 million government programme to simplify fares, reduce evasion, and modernise public transport across the regional rail network.

West #Midlands #Metro has been shortlisted for #Tram Operator of the Year at the National Transport Awards, one of the UK’s leading #transport industry awards recognising excellence, innovation and achievement.

The nomination recognises the work of colleagues across the network, from delivering reliable services and maintaining the fleet to providing customer service, clear communication and ensuring the safe operation of the tram network.

An angry middle aged white man in #Birmingham attacked several #Police officers after being prevented by the arrival of authorities from attacking a Black man he had cornered in his garden.

He also threw boiling water at the Black man and a female Police officer (causing injury to both. It took multiple officers to arrest him (I'm surprised they didn't deploy Tasers, but maybe didn't have Taser trained units available)

He pleaded guilty at #Court and got a 14 year sentence (will likely serve about 8-9 years inside)

I couldn't find any previous for the offender, but this doesn't seem like normal behaviour at age 58 - I guess this is what these men mean by "take back are country?"
