Hässliches Cover, hässlicher deutscher Titel - aber zum Glück weiß ich, dass Michael Swanwick als einer der besten lebenden Kurzgeschichtenautoren der US-amerikanischen Science Fiction gilt. Und ich habe vor zwanzig Jahren sein Blog immer gern gelesen.

This was my first book by Michael Swanwick, and it was a doozy. Really outstanding worldbuilding. Reminds me of Jeff Noon, Jeff VanderMeer, China Mieville, and J. G. Ballard, to name a few.

I am certainly intrigued, enough to devour another of his novels soon. Any recommendations? I like weird reality-questioning stuff along the lines of Philip K. Dick, the sort of thing people call "dreampunk" these days.

I forgot that #MichaelSwanwick 's prose is more lyrical (and sometimes elliptical) than the typical genre novel. It takes more effort to read until I get used to it.

I rarely reread novels because my memory is usually very good, but I’m going to reread Dances with Bears by #MichaelSwanwick because I want to read the sequel and I don’t remember it at all.

(I do think my memory is getting a bit worse as I get older.)

(Also, I am a very slow reader, which further dissuades me from rereading.)
