#MeshCentral is awesome. No Up-selling, no stupid "you are using it commercially" crap, just one-click access to my parent's PC to help my father understand some minor UX fuckup of the Scan-Tool that Fedora XFCE ships. In, explain, out, in under a minute! 💪

#MeshCentral is a really nice, self-hosted replacement for TeamViewer. It has some disadvantages (much worse performance, inconvenient multi-display support, browser based (and therefore issues with capturing key shortcuts)) but also some nice advantages (it's not teamviewer, it's free, you can monitor multiple machines in tile mode, detailed device informations, shell access).
I just onboarded a friend of mine and she is also enjoying working with it. -

I'm leaving Montréal this Sunday to attend the United Nations event in New York. Unclear which days I'm actually registered in, but I'll be in town Mon-Fri, accompanying some of my Open Source industry clients (such as EvoluData, related to #TikiWiki, #Dolibarr, #Cypht & #MeshCentral).
If you want to schedule an encounter, let me know today… otherwise, enter the dungeon on various weekdays until the multi-class character with a @regento branded laptop appears.

Ok. So turns out, #RustDeck is apparently a #freemium piece of shit, with the OSS version not even allowing to have an addressbook and also being stripped bare featurewise in any conceiveable way.
On to #MeshCentral it seems. -

Trying to set something sane up with Intel vPro this week at $DayJob, and given how powerful this is, all the tooling and documentation around it seems... completely shit? #MeshCentral seems the best of the bunch, but it's still awful at telling you why things aren't working, and I haven't got remote wipe working with any tool, and iso redirection is flaky as all hell.
Enterprise. Software.

Looking into free remote desktop solutions... #MeshCentral looks promising. Okay, the broker is written in #NodeJS, whatever.
But do I see it right, it is started as user "root" and does not drop privileges when running on #Linux or BSD?!

I'm doing my best to look past price these days. The thing I got at OVH is Epyc-based and twice the specs of what I'm getting at DO.
But, like I said, unless I want to run either #MeshCentral or #Remotely the non-Docker, non-approved way that the devs probably won't offer any support for, I can't run what I need to run on it, cause they don't let you set firewall rules for the VPS.
Service counts as much as price.

#developers on #Fosstodon and the FediVerse:
I use #meshcentral as my production RMM in my IT small biz.The issue's pattern: you have a #cloudflare DNS service routing traffic to your Meshcentral instance, often behind an #nginx reverse proxy. The main website works, but the remote connections start failing half the time. Now they always fail at a 0 sec timeout.
It seems caused by a change in cloudflare likely with #websockets but possibly #ssl certs?
Thoughts on this?
