@gadgetboy it would be interesting to know how much having less relays affects the amount of content you get in your feed, I think it will only effect followed #hashtags and not account follows, also you know you can purge media after an amount of time from cron?

I’ve been advised to reduce or remove the number of relays connected to my instance to reduce my media storage requirements. I’ve pared them down from 7 to just 3. We’ll see how well that works.

Updated the instance to mastodon 4.1.0, the ability to view followed tags and edit text description of already posted images has been nice.

The main downside is that the issue with paperclip not pooling connections to fog object storage still results in http 419 from my Swift storage provider.

The local patch I had broke with dependencies updating, so we're back to concurrency=1 during media remove, which is not ideal.

Well, I rolled out my own Mastodon instance on my tiny Docker host. For now I will probably just use it to figure out what all of the buttons do.

One thing does have me perplexed, following people on certain instances seems to require approval when done so from my own instance, while following the same people from mastodon.social does not.

I'm guessing mastodon.social is somehow whitelisted with most other instances and my own brand new instance is not.

Knowing that services like @mastohost exist, but have had to at least temporarily halt new accounts due to scaling challenges, has anyone put together a Minimum Viable Mastodon Server guide, yet? I'd love to see one covering what it takes to provide a server for maybe one to at most a handful of accounts. I might explore myself, but I suspect there's some bottlenecks and challenges that become apparent only with time and experience.
