@ben There are some public relays, but those risk being inundated with spam/hate/abuse. I’d like to see a private relay that can link up a few small instances who trust each other and want to expand their view of the fediverse a bit.

@ben It’s a server that multiple Mastodon instances can link up to, allowing them to see each other’s federated timelines in their own federated timelines.

It expands the “view” of all participating instances so that, for instance, reply threads are more fully populated.

I’m sure there are other aspects to it.

I might be a little late to this party, but just discovered an amazing relay service for single user Mastodon servers: https://relay.fedi.buzz/. Unlike most relays which require you to ingest all the posts from all the servers on the relay, this lets you select posts by instance or by hashtag. Really cuts down on the server and bandwidth needs. Huge thanks to @astro for this awesome service. #mastodon #relay #singleuserserver #mastodonrelay

Is it the approach to sync everything from everywhere to my instance?

If yes, wow - resources? redundancy? raft or other cluster protos for #consistency?

If no, how can I decide what to sync? I found asian toots on my english moderated server, what's the point if I cannot even read these?
