I played three games of #Imperialism by #SSI over the holidays. What a game! But what a design failure, that victory condition! A vote in which you cannot even control your own votes. Even the venerable #MasterOfOrion had an option to oppose the election and simply fight everyone. Here, game over. Adding insult to injury, when you win, the game offers to continue playing nevertheless. But not when you "lose". Cracks removing the vote welcome.

Having #FreeDOS #DOS #MSDOS tell me how little I know of that environment.
Apparently I have 32MB of expanded memory but #MasterOfOrion #MOO thinks I have less than 1K. No configuration combinations have yielded anything more useful yet, and I have no clue if it's my lack of knowledge or actual technical limitations with FreeDOS + #JemmEx or #HimemSX + #Jemm386 and this game.
I need to put this down for another day/never. I just got the physical game delivered and just wanted to see it boot up 🥲 -

Note that this is not emulation, FreeDOS is booting directly on this hardware. It can even run DOS games, however compatibility doesn't seem to be 100%. Still, seeing one of my favorite games from the 90s - Master of Orion - running on the setup made me quite happy.

✨ Someone should remake Master of Orion 2.
No innovations, no bells and whistles, no fancy nothing. Just make it work on modern devices, make the UI not lag, and add cross platform multiplayer so people can have a match across mobile/mac/windows.
That would be the best. The #game holds up remarkably well.

I hear there is a bug preventing this to be played on Windows. Mebbe give #LinuxGaming a chance? Cuz here it seems to work - even on Wayland and with AMDGPU!
