I might be quite new to #Mastedon, but on Wednesday I will post my 500th post on https://downiefamily.wixsite.com/wherebreadisfound, which began as a blog to help me, and anyone else who read it, through the Covid pandemic by dwelling on the Word of God.
My 500th post is the start of a short series looking at who Jesus really is, from John 1:1-18: Christmas meditations with no trees or reindeer in sight.

Unfortunately, two of #mastedon 's worst decisions were 1) Not allowing #QuoteToot s & 2) Not publicizing boost/like counts to others.That's why likes serve almost no purpose. Also, no #QuoteToots suppresses sharing great ideas b/c you can neither add context to a boosted comment nor add your own commentary to another toot.
I've heard the arguments about those things amplifying trolls or creating pile-ons but the "fixes" squash way more good ideas, IMO.

@sciencebase I think other people misunderstood as well. I was touting the great feature of #Mastedon that you CAN (if you choose) change instances and (optionally, if you want) bring ALL your followers with you so they don't have to do a thing. You don't lose them.
On the other hand, if you want to pull up stakes and leave toxic followers behind, you can do that as well. Either way, freedom! -

I'm trialling Tooot, rather than the official Mastedon app for Android.
My first impression? To ask: why isn't this the official Mastedon app for Android. It has so many features that are missing from the official app, and an interface that should be straightforward for anyone moving across from you-know-where.

@webuiltthiscity I know there were philosophical reasons for not including the 'reboost' feature....but I disagree with them. I also often want to reboost a post with my own commentary added and find it frustrating that it is not possible. I hope the #Mastedon developers reconsider.....
