I know I am saying that not for the first time, but: Don’t be afraid of the #Johannesburg inner city areas like #Marshalltown.
And if you are there, go for lunch e.g. at Sadie‘s. Friendly people, solid food, good #RedCapuccino.
-
@GrahamDowns The results are quite interesting: 40% would want to live in the city.
In #Johannesburg unfortunately inner city living is not on the map for most people.
Our area (#Marshalltown) is safe enough since all the major banks are located in the area and there are a few middle class apartments and some apartment buildings for students.
There are some shops for everyday needs (like a Woolworths Foods, pharmacies etc), but unfortunately not enough purchasing power to make it a vibrant inner city environment with coffee shops an such, like you see it e.g. in #CapeTown.
This is a real pity as the area would have huge potential to become an attractive downtown living quarter.
-
I am definitely no good (#food) photographer, but: The #restaurant and #bar of the “Johannesburg Culinary & Pastry School” #JCPS in #Marshalltown, inner city #Johannesburg is definitely worth a visit for a very friendly and solid lunch experience.
It also is a nice place to sit, especially in the shade on the outside balcony, complete with a nice street view from above.
And don’t forget to get some of their filled #chocolate treats or #cake|s.

#CramersCoffee is a lovely and actually my favourite little coffee shop on the corner #HarrisonStreet and #MainStreet in #Marshalltown in central #Johannesburg.
Great #coffee, great spot to sit and work or simply watch the people passing by.
-
The inner city of #Johannesburg has some nice spots and isn’t a no-go area, contrary to what some people say.
#CramersCoffee, my favourite spot for coffee, unfortunately seems to be closed still but #CityPerkCafe is open.

Saturday morning in #Marshalltown, #Johannesburg.

A large #Marshalltown #Iowa employer will lay off more than a hundred people—in the very city where the company began.
#Lennox Industries will lay off 114 workers on Jan. 16, according to Iowa’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act website.
The company is Marshalltown’s third-largest employer, with 915 total employees. Many are #union ized with the United Auto Workers (#UAW) Local 893.

Don’t know if #TrowelThursday is a thing, but saw a toot and loved it. Years ago I found a letter, written in 1808 by #Cunnington, which has the first reference to a “mason’s #trowel” in #archaeology (https://reader.exacteditions.com/issues/53767/page/41?term=invisible+pioneers). Still some of my favourite research, because trowels are TOTEMIC! It’s also why I’m proud of my own trowel - a gift from my father-in-law who seriously upgraded it! Forget Golden #Marshalltown meet Carbon Fibre #WHS :-)
