  11. This should be interesting.

An extension of the "memory hole" approach that explains why we didn’t learn about WWII Japanese incarceration in high school. All legitimate, documented, extended moments of shame in US history are being "cleansed," 1984-style.

  13. @MaryAustinBooks At this point, I look at worst case scenarios. The reaction could be more cowering, quivering and acquiesce by the citizenry. Most #Americans only want cheap beer, sports on TV and a group to hate.

As to your next post, I don't have 15 years. I'll probably be gone in 5-7 years max. I really don't want to die in at #Manzanar.

  14. Being a non American, I've been wondering where I've heard of the "Alien Enemies Act" before. It's the 1798 law the Trump regime is using to disappear "non-citizens" to that prison complex in El Salvador.

Well, the law was last invoked during WWII in one of (the many) shameful and xenophobic periods in US history by President Roosevelt to imprison Japanese-Americans and others in prison camps like Manzanar in California.

  15. More than 10,000 Japanese Americans were incarcerated at Manzanar Relocation Center, Calif., during World War II. Playing and watching baseball was one of the ways these Americans tried to retain some sense of normalcy. Dan Kwong is a longtime volunteer at Manzanar, which became a national historic site in 1992 — his late mother, Momo Nagano, was incarcerated there as a teenager. Here's the story of how he built a baseball field at the site in honor of Momo, who wrote extensively about her time at the camp in order that future generations would never forget this piece of history.

  16. @NinaBernstein1 This all sounds good but I predict nothing will happen until #MAGAmoron orders the #military to fire on protestors. Then, #Dems, #libs, #progressives and even some #GOP will suddenly run around trying to get their hands on weapons and firearms. Of course, there will always be a subset that quietly marches off to concentration camps, hoping this will all end when people "come to their sense." Well, I have no plans of spending the final years of my life at #Manzanar.

  18. @DrALJONES Yes but (there's always a 'but') the govt already has #concentrationcamps for #Americans of #Japanese descent. I've already reserved my family's original cell block in case I end up at #Manzanar! 😂

  20. NYT should know the word 'internment' is no longer used in this context. "Incarceration" is preferred.

  23. It's possible Death Valley might hit close to 130 degrees today & Sunday.

We canceled a side trip to #Manzanar because it's supposed to reach 108 in the Owens Valley today & tomorrow.

Here, near the n. shore of Mono Lake, it's only going to be 95 today. Flies are swarming around the sagebrush, but at least it's too hot for no-see-ums. The bugs, heat, glare, & dust (& smoke from the #PikaFire on the NE side of Yosemite) are impressive, & enervating. And snowmelt is everywhere. #cawx #cawater
