I got asked about this again so.. If you really want to save some money with your cat's litter box, here's a tip. Use wooden pellets, plus clean them up with a bucket that has holes. In that way all the pellets that are intact can be still used. This way all the pellets during one year can cost only 30-50 euros. You are welcome.

Question for you #cat owners: I'm testing right now the new #Petkit #PurobotUltra self cleaning #litterbox. It's got a camera recording the cats doing their duties including pics of their "products", the machine is self cleaning AND even does the packaging of the waste itself. Super comfortable. What questions would you have rgd. the machine that must not be missed in my #review?

The #kittens do their business in the #litterbox, after a few small accidents earlier.
But why all (almost all) at the same time..? 🤷

The switch to solid food seems to be going fine. Black-and-White is munching pellets several times a day, although I haven't seen the other #kittens follow his lead there.
Today I gave #Melian a piece of cheese, rather spicy stuff too. And there was Stripe, he nicked it from his mother and started chewing! So I gave Melian a new piece, but that was confisquated by Black 😎

I haven't seen any wet spots on my trousers again, and I do see a few dark spots in the #litterbox, so apparently the potty-training is coming along nicely too.

The #kittens are developing rapidly. They're learning to jump now, and they can run!
And they don't need mom anymore for a wee, only they haven't discovered the real use of the #litterbox yet 🙄

I had been warned that #kittens might eat litter, so I'd have to give them the non-clumping stuff. They're biting and chewing on anything they can now, including litter.
And pellets. Yes, the first one has discovered those things can be eaten. Good to see, they're ready to switch to solid food now.

CW: How to enable the kittens to make the switch from toilet-Mom to the litterbox?
The #kittens don't use a #litterbox yet, see this previous post. But they'll have to make the switch some day.
The normal one is too big for them, #Melian would have to lift them in and out. Not sure how that would work.
A friend recommended a small box, small enough to make it useless for Melian, who would make a mess with her fanatic digging...
And also, I'd have to use litter that doesn't clump, because the kittens will probably eat some of it because of their teething. And we don't want little clumps of cement in their stomachs... Good advice, I didn't know that.
I found an empty 5 liter container, cut one side out, and filled it with the non-clumping litter. Looks perfect. So now I put every kitten in it once or twice a day, so they know it's there.

The #kittens are more than 3 weeks old now, and starting to explore their environment. They're not very steady on their feet yet, but it's improving rapidly. They play with each other, and even try to run every now and then.
They're also teething, so I expect mother #Melian will stop #suckling soon. She seems to direct them to the food bowl every now and then, as if to invite them to try it. Black-and-white tried his (?) teeth on my finger this morning. And look at the claws of Black in the video, huge for such a small animal...
We're at the start of a new phase, in which the kittens will explore the entire house. I hope mom can teach them to use the #litterbox quickly, I've moved it back to its original place in the kitchen: pretty close to their box.

CW: The #kittens are doing fine, as is mom. I've changed the #nursery box, so the foul smell is gone. I weighed all four, and was glad to see that each of them was well over the minimum of 100 grams that they should be.

Tried the colour coding with a bit of nailpolish on the tips of their tails, but that doesn't seem to work well. There's a hint of blue on one, but the rest is clean again...
Had an unpleasant incident yesterday evening. Mother #Melian came down the stairs, walked into my bathroom... and took a huge dump on the rug! The smell!! 🤢
Took me a while to realize what had happened. I had been advised to make sure she had everything she needed in the #nursery room, so I had put her #litterbox there too. I think she didn't want that smelly stuff near her kittens, evolution has probably taught cats that that could alert predators.
So I've put the litterbox back where it had been until she gave birth. Live and learn...

I have never felt more like my cat's servant than when he sits and watches me clean the litter box and uses it as soon as I get the fresh litter put in. Often before I get the top put back on. He does this every time I clean it.

A sure sign that the litter box needs cleaning is when your cat is stacking waste in there as if it were some sort of Tetris clone.
