@mark22k, I believe that a #ZNC user is able to choose any server from the networks above. As I understand it, this #bouncer is designed to be a shared service rather than a solo one.
P.S. personally, following #BonoboNet (Ygg + Myc), #Benisnet (Ygg), #Libera (Tor via SASL/cert), and few local networks in I2P

Are there any other hosted options I should look at? I'm tempted by irccloud if the #slack integration works because like it or not its where the corporate stuff happens.

tip about migrating forgejo
At the end of the process, don't freak out (as me :) if everything looks empty; you'll have to "adopt" your repositories, which are stored on the filesystem but still not in your "possession".It's just a matter of a single click per repo, and it's done in the webui.
I followed the official guide to set the instance up and this pretty good how-to migrate. Just don't copy/paste, not everything is accurate 100%.

I think I'll install #ZNC again as an #IRC #bouncer instead of #pounce and #litterbox. that breaks my heart because i love these softwares but znc is more friendly imho. i'll see how it goes

@mostlypat for IRC you can go offline and still keep up if you use a #IRCbouncer such as #ZNC which supports configurable playback for channels. I don't bother though, I just have #irssi running all the time on a VM with a permanent connection to the intertubes.

CW: Rambling, personal
Last few days I've finally had the motivation to sit down and get into my software tinkering groove again.
Returned to #IRC, #Emacs and #Scheme after many years...
I've set up and configured #znc on my server and in my IRC clients, learned about the new tab bar mode in Emacs and started using that instead of workgroups.el, ironed out various config issues since I've missed like 5 major Emacs versions...
And most gratifyingly, I've started reading Scheme papers again, pondering on language design.
Started writing a text file documenting various design choices I would make in a modern Scheme-inspired language, and I think I'll really start implementing this language, probably in Zig.
I'm calling it Zisp. Yeah, I'm real boring.

(I feel a slight temptation to call it "zcheme" which sounds like the Turkish word "zikim" which is kind of a funny expletive. But I'm not that immature.)
I think this is the beginning of me starting to get over the "trauma" of suddenly realising, about 8 years ago, that I was completely surrounded by a certain political ideology in the nerd software space. People left and right of me in these communities all being gripped by "le mind virus." If you know, you know.
I'll never truly feel like a part of any of these communities, but then that was never going to happen anyway. It's not without reason that I was once diagnosed with a schizoid personality disorder and never make any friends.
I have a partner now, which grounds me and gives me a deep sense of security. I can lurk in communities full of people with a vastly opposed world view and not give a shit about foolish things they believe. Many of them still have interesting perspectives to offer on software and such.
And I can do my own little thing with this toy language, instead of trying to be part of something bigger. I find it unfortunate that I had to give up on guix, but it doesn't matter now. Gentoo is growing on me, and offers a well maintained distro for general use, not suffering from the instability of experimental features.

@jeffalyanak I just went back to Quassel as had migrated to #ZNC but had issues with my reverse proxy. To be fair it was due to the IRC protocol not forwarding through the proxy which is not ZNC's fault. But I like the Quassel mobile app more so moved back to it.
Only odd thing with #Quassel is you can't do everything in the web client, so do need to use a desktop client to add new #IRC networks and manage it properly.
