It's funny (and heartening) to see how much that's changed and how diverse games are now.
Creative, experimental, wholesome and cutesy games are a lot more mainstream thanks to indie developers, and the audience has grown and diversified with it.
It just makes me happy.

Anyway there's no point to this story other than it just sticks in my mind because it felt really nice to be reminded that I wasn't the only one, in a job where I often felt quite isolated because of my specific tastes - there were other folks out there who preferred cutesy, "niche" games when violent shooters dominated the charts.
That's right, Kirby was niche (in the UK) in 2011!

I almost hugged them and started talking excitedly about the game and how I was looking forward to finishing my shift so I could purchase my own copy. They were probably a bit stunned by my over enthusiastic customer service but reminder - I had been dealing with that other game exclusively ALL DAY LONG and was so bored of it.

I was having *the* most boring shift that day on the till, doing transaction after transaction of [popular AAA shooter] all day long, until finally one couple approached the counter and told me they had come to collect their preorder. I almost reached for the stack of [popular AAA shooter] everyone else was buying when they clarified their preorder was Kirby Mass Attack (!)

Happy birthday to my favourite Kirby game, Kirby Mass Attack!
It holds a special place in my heart because it was released on the same day as some extremely popular AAA shooter game.
I was working at Gamestation back then and remember the sight of rows upon rows upon piles of copies of this shooter in the preorder section of the stock room, and maybe like 2 copies of Kirby Mass Attack (and one of them was mine, lol)
