  1. I feel like old(-ish) anime from ~1990-2000's have a tendency to have deeper narratives and more philosophical themes than newer ones.

A few examples that come to mind are:
    - Neon Genesis Evangelion
    - Serial Experiments Lain
    - Haibane Renmei
    - Kino's Journey
    - DEATH NOTE

  2. Time for #kinosjourney. I'm watching the 2003 anime, after having watched the 2017 one.
I get why it's rated so much higher. I'm enjoying it a lot.

Makes me glad I watched it in that order.

  3. @alissaazar My teen son rules our TV, so other than briefly bingeing @neilhimself 's #TheSandman (amazing) and @GreatDismal 's #ThePeripheral (maybe even better) all we watch is #anime. My favorites:

#DemonSlayer: Taisho-era magical swordsmanship. Gorgeous, gorgeous artwork. Filled with action, pathos, and comedy.

#SpyXFamily: A secret agent, an assassin, and a telepathic 6-year-old form an odd family to stop a war. Wacky fun, intrigue, and touching family scenes.

#ChainsawMan: an orphan teen is possessed by the Chainsaw Devil, who used to be his puppy. Forced to join the #XFiles-esque Devil Hunters, he battles other devils to save mankind. Violent. So, so, so violent. Also hilarious.

#KinosJourney: The Beautiful World: A #non-binary? #transmasc? #androgenous gunfighter travels from town to town, each with its own peculiar laws. Philosophical. Contemplative.
