Alucard is now done! After dragging my feet on starting him for so long, the actual painting took much less time than I assumed it would. A fun paint job and exercise in using a limited palette. As always, more could be done but I'm satisfied.
Tough one to photograph well though, just barely fits in my light box.

Someone I used to know here once said approvingly that Hellsing was Anglican propaganda, and rereading it for the first time since I was a teen, I can see it lol

Cozy morning of painting, watching AGDQ. Had to bust out the super sexy magnifying goggles, but think I've successfully captured Alucard's gleeful combat expression.

The thing about highlighting black is, there is very little between over and under doing it. And if you do it very well? Nobody even really knows. (I think)
I think I'm happy enough with this, maybe a bit more glazing back and forth to be done, but I ran out of time.
His face is going to be interesting, as he is often depicted with much warmer skin than is typical of a vampire.

More progress here, feel pretty good about where the goop is at, still doing some puzzling about the teeth and tongue. The obvious choice with the teeth is blood and/or brown/yellow staining, but I sort of like the idea that since it's more of a spirit creature, the teeth are clean and maybe even highlighted up to look like they're glowing?
Fun aside: I often ask my Partner for her opinion on things that I'm pondering, since she is generally smarter and more objective, but she refused here on the basis of "it has too many eyes and I don't want to look at it" so I suppose that's a win for creep factor.

After a lot of delay, like more than a year, I've finally started putting a brush to Alucard.
I'm not sure exactly what has kept me from starting for so long. Maybe just uncertainty about my approach to the colors? I've decided it's just going to be a bunch of red really. Getting very intimate with red. And some black and white.
Also I should have started sooner because it's going to take foreevvveeerrr, especially with the way I paint.

Re-reading and re-watching #Hellsing and tbh, I'm realizing how influential the series was on my drawing style lmao. The silhouettes and crackhead grins are still cool as hell.
Ultimate is definitely more fan-servicey in the sense it delivers the scenes it knows you came for, but I gotta give a shout out to the 2001 version for the slower pace and bolder colours/shading. The vivid reds and black shadows absent in Ultimate are still so cool.
Also I kinda like the 01 style a bit better. And music!
