Another fun fact. Tomorrow, November 4, the day before the time change, the sun will rise at 8:08AM local time.

After the time change to Standard Time this weekend, the sun will not rise that late again until the day *after* the shortest day of the year, December 22. The latest it will rise will be 8:10AM, the same time between Dec 27 and Jan 4, until it starts to move earlier.

If we were to instead keep Daylight Savings Time then the sun would rise (in this location just above the 49th Parallel) after 8AM every day between October 30 and February 28 and not until after 9AM during winter solstice/Christmas time.

Gross.

The EU voted to abolish daylight saving time in 2019. However, we continue this stupid practice because some states want to stay on DST year round, while others want to stay on standard time year round.

The correct answer is standard time year round because:

1. Time is an illusion. Let’s keep it simple.

Also, the very fact Marco Rubio is the one pushing the legislation to allow states to keep DST permanently, as opposed to keeping Standard permanently which could have been done by States with no Congressional action whatsoever, should tell you all you need to know about what industry is pushing for this option and whether using DST permanently is good or bad for society as a whole.
