#Throwback to my #Linux #Ricing in 2014 with #KDE4.
Running on a SiS Mirage 3 iGPU was a nightmare but is still possible. Driver was available on some obsure site (now someone uploaded it on Github). Certainly, brings back memories.

I think I will need to get a KDE 4 VM installed to do testing to see how Diamond originally looked, because I want to modify Diamond4on6 to both 1. use the version from my backup (2.0.3, meaning the repo version will be rebased [this is because 2.0.3 works better]) and 2. I need to have a way to mess around with it in a state where it works and doesn't have a grey background.

One of the dreams I had last night right before waking up was that I was using the KDE Plasma 4 version of the calendar applet and was confused when I woke up because I couldn't remember if that's what Plasma 6 used or not, but then remembered it was different. It made me want to use that version again since it's way smaller, so if I had the time, I'd try to update it to work on Plasma 6 but it would probably be too much effort.

Found Diamond 2.0.3 for KDE4 in some old backups and uploaded it to Codeberg in a zip file. Later it will be organized. I forgot this version existed and didn't know just how lost the Diamond theme was.

I think I'm going to have #Diamond4on6 versioning be 1.x for the #Plasma4 version and 2.x for the #Plasma6 version. Could probably have a version for #Plasma5 , but I don't use it and it's the old stable version (for now my version would probably work on 5, not sure, though; at least it will be available if someone wants to try).

I'm going to update the Diamond theme for #KDE4 so that it can work better on KDE6, as it's my favorite theme and has a few issues on #KDE6, mainly in the notifications. The project also doubles as an archival for this version, as I can't find everything in it consistently anywhere, and you can download it here:
https://codeberg.org/DrewNaylor/Diamond4on6/releases/tag/1.5.5
#Plasma6 #KDE #KDEPlasma #Linux #LostMedia (well not anymore) #Diamond4on6

I don't know why the #MATEDesktop "clicks" so well for my brain and how much I enjoy it despite it being so quirky and much less easily/extensively customized vs. #KDE (I also loved #KDE4, despite so many people hating it; the key is to install the QtCurve Kwin and controls theme and the Diamond [something] Plasma theme and it will look amazing; glad there was a continuation like Trinity for #KDE3 last I checked, hope it's still going and I wonder if anyone will do one for #Plasma5).

Hello #KDE :kde: enthusiasts on the Fediverse, I've got a question.
What was the official term or name used to refer to the fourth major version of the KDE community's desktop environment at that time? (I'm not asking for the name used around or after Plasma 5's release).
Please provide more details in a reply if you have additional information :boostplease:

Selbst #OpenSuse 10.2 mit drölfzig #Compiz Effekten und #KDE4 lief besser als #WindowsVista - und das war 2007...

@FranckLeroy I mean we're not in the early 2000s where Linux was some 1337hax0r elite shit and only the most skilled nerds were able to enjoy a fancy #KDE4 Plasma Desktop with hardware-acceleration and rock-solid 60+ fps.
Or are #TechIlliterates really that decoupled that they've basically given up and accepted #malware & #ransomware ruining their day and work as a fact of life?
If so then making PCs accessible to these ignorants was a horrble mistake!

@mikael @drnfc @PeterCxy personally, I did start on #OpenSUSE 10.2 with #KDE 3.5 back in 2006, but that was just me switching from #WindowsVista and wanting something that wasn't #bloated af.
Plasma / #KDE4 back then was absurdly slow tho.
I find #Gnome in current versions quite good, and #Ubuntu LTS feels much like #macOS...
