It’s been a week but I’ve been really happy with my new PC build. I went with large fans and airflow and I really just never hear it. Counting the GPU and PSU fans, it sits at 10 fans: 6x 140mm, 2x 120mm, and 2x 85mm on the GPU.
I think the ONLY thing that I feel like I gotta change is the annoyingly blinding blue LED in the power button. Blue LEDs already annoy me but heck it’s bright. I think I’ll pull it out and put a soft white LED in it that barely glows. I fear it’s gonna be a lot more disassembly than I want to do, though, so I might live with it and put a piece of vellum over it or something. It seriously lights up the wall across from the PC.

This thing is so cool from the inside. I want to leave it like this every time I open it.
This is my #DIY #NAS I built in #Jonsbo N1 case. #TrueNas in the past, #Proxmox for now.4 HDDs and 2 SSDs. 64 GB of RAM and 12-core Intel i5.
One thing I don’t like is a PCIe SAS controller in the bottom that is huge and gets very hot. It’s there because the motherboard had only 4 SATA ports. I want to replace that controller with something smaller and cooler.

Designed and 3D Printed this bracket to hold sata connectors in my new #Jonsbo N4 case. The straight through adaptors weren’t compatible with a model I found so came up with this. It’s not perfect as the drives don’t slide all the way back but the front does still fit on.

Ich habe mir in den letzten Tagen ein kleines #NAS zusammengebaut, auf Basis eines #Jonsbo N2 und eines #BKHD N150 Boards.
mit einem gedrucktem Adapter und einem 120mm Lüfter habe ich immer noch einen nahezu lautlosen Server, welcher beim Idlen, mit ein paar Docker Containern, bei knapp 20W und auf 39°C läuft, das sind 11° mehr als die Raumtemperatur. -

I still think #Tecware's Quad Cube mATX case is STILL the best case for a beginner #homelab.
It's dirt cheap, the quality is honestly better than you'd expect (even better than #Jonsbo's cases honestly which costs MANY times more), the PCIE slot covers aren't those "disposable" ones and can always be screwed back in, it's SO SO easy to build in and maintain (honestly, it's also perfect for an open test bench), it's relatively compact, and most importantly - it has really a convenient 4x 3.5" hard disk drive bay that's again, easy to work with (it has other places you could mount 2.5" drives too, no worries).
It has one BIG flaw tho that has made me jump the gun and spent something like 10x more and that is... the side panels. For one, it has glass side panels which I absolutely hate (honestly, if you need a see-through side panel, I miss when glass was considered premium and the cheaper cases offer acrylic, see-through side panels instead). That wasn't why it's bad though, the way it's mounted is (or lackthereof).
There's a metal "bracket" screwed in to the body of the case on both sides. How does the glass stay in place? JUST with 2 adhesive tapes that "sticks" the glass to the metal bracket, that itself is screwed into the case. Warm 24/7 running computers don't play well with what is essentially double-sided tapes ofc, so one of my glass side panel actually fell off and broke to a thousand pieces.
Now... as someone who's totally not done something like this (or even done any form of #3dprinting) in my life, how do I design replacement side panels for the case so that it can have a new life hosting another server in the future?

So close yet so far - I finally found a good candidate, #Jonsbo N4. On paper - the form factor looks decent, supports 4 PCIE slots, supports mATX boards (tho apparently it's quite a struggle for a 24-pin cable to reach the board from where the PSU will be), supports MANY 3.5" drives (up to 6 I think) and 2x 2.5" drives.
The only issue is that it only supports SFX PSUs :( and they're not the cheapest - the cost is fine on its own, but paying for both the case and PSU will be quite the investment (roughly ~915+ MYR). God, I should really start whoring myself for a stable employment again - I've learned my lesson to never have a gap between jobs because for some reason it's so hard for me to start looking for a job. I'm always busy and distracted with something else, sigh.
