Today is PC migration day. Getting the new PC in physical place tonight, getting my logins done, setting up the new security keys, all that fun stuff. The one thing I did *not* expect was to use a piece of plywood 😂
It's going on a table that's a couple inches too narrow, and it has legs to let airflow from underneath reach the PSU. The legs are just fat enough apart that they would go off the sides, putting the bottom of the case in direct contact with the table. No airflow. So I'm going to cut a piece of wood that goes under the case and ensures the airflow while letting me still use the table.
A piece of wood was definitely never on my list of "required parts for my new PC", but there it is.

I'm glad I upgraded my PC in 2023.
Got a new CPU, motherboard, and RAM from MicroCenter in an in-store deal at the time (their combo deals are insane even today) whereby I was given 32GB of DDR5-6000 DRAM for 1 penny. (Its list price in the store was $149.99.)
I just did a NewEgg search for the same DRAM kit and found it at $933.99.

For the 50-series GPUs, Nvidia removed the ability for consumers to read the GPU "Hotspot" temperature sensor.
That sensor has just been exposed by HWMonitor in its latest update.
My report: I have a PNY OC 5080 and the "GPU" temp at full load under No Man's Sky (no vsync, 144fps cap, full GPU utilization) sits around 60C and the Hotspots (Hotspot 2 is a little higher than the first) seem not to exceed 75C. There's 15C or so difference between "GPU" and hotspots, often.

I am planning a new PC build. I want something like a steam machine.
I'm thinking something light weight and not having a GPU. Just use an AMD 8700g or something with an iGPU.
I mostly play #slaythespire2 anyway 🤣
Then someone recommended bazzite as the OS but I've not heard of it before.
A small pc case that fits on a TV stand.
Any tips or recommendations?

that I call Tesseract.
I had a cheap $12 Low-Profile #CPU Cooler from Vetroo Shadow but the RGB died & than the fan.
They sent me a replacement but even that one started to died. So I got the Thermalright SI-100 WHITE for my #Intel Core i3-10100FI also added the Free Semi Modular 750W PSU I got from NewEgg & I pulled GTX 1050 2GB (to add to moms PC) & I add the GTX 1060 6GB.
I use this PC for watching #TV & #Movies, #NAS stuff, Old #PCgames & #RetroGaming -

The consumer GPU market isn't in crisis; it's in an undeclared "End of Life" phase. NVIDIA is deliberately starving the AIB supply chain (partners like MSI and Asus) to divert all of TSMC's silicon to AI chips for data centers, where margins are obscene.
MSI just declared 2026 will be a supply nightmare and is cutting production. They're closing the ecosystem. PC gaming and independent builders have become a nuisance for Jensen Huang's balance sheets.
I'm compiling logs and market data for a complete autopsy of this commercial architecture. I'll post the full video on my channel. The era of x86 and affordable consumer hardware is coming to an end under the blows of the CUDA monopoly.

Well my Gigabyte Z890 AERO G Motherboard has a bad CPU Socket.🙁
One Pin is just a little off & that is making RAM slot B2 not work right.
The system does work on slot A2 so I was able to test out both RAM sticks 1 by 1 at full speed via memtest86+, all tested out good. I also booted 3 Linux distro's all fine.
So the board is going back to amazon as I'm within my 30-days.
Good news is price for that board has gone down so $40 back to me😃 -
I've updated my Arduino RGB controller:
- color transitions are now much smoother
- I can now control the maximum color intensity

Oh my goodies all came in today😁
For a Motherboard we got: "Gigabyte Z890 AERO G ATX LGA1851"
This is the only Z890 with this PCIe slot layout & just so happens to be white.
The WiFi in it is useless to me, thanks to Intel. So I will disable it in Bios.As for the Case: "Fractal Design Pop XL Air ATX Full Tower" good case & fits in the space I plan to put it.
Because Monday is a Holiday 🥳️#420day🥳️
