    Joan Vinge is an American SF author best known for The Snow Queen, a planetary romance that reimagines Andersen's fairy tale on a distant alien world. It won the 1981 Hugo and the Locus Award. Her novelette "Eyes of Amber" won the 1978 Hugo. Her Cat novels, starting with Psion.
