This morning I joined an interview at the @jetbrains booth during PyCon US 2026 🎤
It was a really interesting experience being interviewed by @wsvincent
Thanks also to Alex for the audio/video support, @pauleveritt for the “security service” during the interview 😄, and Kristel for the assistance around the booth ✨

In my quest to get rid of even more #Microslop products, I'm testing if #jetbrain 's #rider can replace #VisualStudio (not VSCode).
My tests yesterday looked promising, even though in VS some things work more ... "smoothly" (like providing a .gitignore for a solution).
I'll take notes.

My LLM workflow:
- generate .md file of entire code base, minus noise
- paste into chat, ask bot to do something
- Bot gives me new main.py and I create a m.py file, paste in new code
- Use #Jetbrain's diff tool to manually merge -
Highly disapointed by @jetbrains who adopt an Opt-out model for data sharing.
I’m pretty sure one day a “bug” will re-enable the option, someone will forget to turn back the option because it’s a new setup.
Consent is to have the agreement a no become a yes. Not the opposite.

#Jetbrain's survey: "I want developer-oriented Silly Tavern but you guys are writing "do Matt's job for him so his boss can justify shrinking the team and cutting salaries". Copilot breaks reliable intellisense, it was a mistake and it was a mistake to copy it. I speak from 2 years of trying to let the bot autocomplete my code. It can't. You have to talk to it. It is like a cat, it isn't going to do what you want without some herding."

https://blog.jetbrains.com/clion/2025/05/clion-is-now-free-for-non-commercial-use/
You might've seen mentions of #CLion being free (for non-commercial use), but if you're like me it helps to know that this is #Jetbrain's their C/C++/Rust IDE.
..so if you want to try writing one of these languages, the above post might be worth checking out.
#Webstorm also appears to be free, which is their #Javascript / #Typescript IDE https://www.jetbrains.com/webstorm/

Hmm #jetbrain #rider seems does not have an automated #vb.net method description adding. If I type ''' and hit enter nothing is happening. 🤔
Should this be not a basic feature? 😱

The game itself is written in pure C for best portability.
And i hope that #JetBrain fixes https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/CPP-1576/Run-debug-on-Linux-macOS-Run-in-external-terminal-option soon so that i can use the full debugger. Printf-debugging gets lame pretty fast. 😅
