  1. *I think Eby's the current, problematic BC politician in Premier power role. The core problem is that #BCNDP haven't really respected #IndigenousRights for a long time. Their caucus became too whipped under Horgan & that's continued under Eby - who was groomed by the former neoliberal in charge of BC policies.*

Grand Chief Stewart Phillip of the Union of B.C. Indian Chiefs says the NDP has a “colossal” leadership problem, and if it doesn’t move on from Premier David Eby, the party could be doomed for decades. “I think the problem is Premier Eby,” he said at a Friday morning news conference in Vancouver held by Indigenous leaders opposed to a proposed suspension of parts of the Declaration on the Rights of #IndigenousPeoples Act (DRIPA).

Phillip spoke alongside the #FirstNations Leadership Council, which is made up of members of the B.C. Assembly of First Nations, the First Nations Summit and the Union of B.C. Indian Chiefs. The groups held a joint news conference in Vancouver on Friday (April 10), slamming the B.C. NDP government’s DRIPA suspension plan, a move the council had called a “unilateral betrayal” on Thursday. #DRIPA is a 2019 B.C. law that formally commits the province to aligning its laws with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples ( #UNDRIP ), which affirms the right to #SelfDetermination for #Indigenous peoples worldwide.

  6. How #Epstein’s biggest financial client shaped #millennial teen culture

#VictoriasSecret and #AbercrombieAndFitch taught a generation of young people what was desirable.

by Constance Grady, Mar 12, 2026

Excerpt: "It appears that Epstein wasn’t the only bad actor surrounding Wexner. #EdRazek, former chief marketing officer at #LBrands and a close friend of Wexner’s, has been accused of nonconsensually groping Victoria’s Secret models and blackballing those who refused his advances. #MikeJeffries, the former CEO of Abercrombie & Fitch, is awaiting trial on #SexTrafficking and prostitution charges, having allegedly targeted young men who modeled for #Abercrombie, worked as the stores’ infamous shirtless greeters, or aspired to do any of the above. Bruce Weber, a photographer who shot many of Abercrombie’s famously edgy ads, has been accused of sexually exploiting male models."

  13. A Vancouver Island First Nation whose people were the first to greet European explorers in the region almost 250 years ago is taking British Columbia to court, seeking title to their traditional territories and financial compensation.

Chief Mike Maquinna, a descendent of #ChiefMaquinna who met British explorer Capt. James Cook in 1776, says the claim in #BCSupremeCourt seeks to return decision-making, resource and ecological stewardship to the #Mowachaht / #Muchalalaht First Nation.

He says the province has been acting as the sole decision-making authority in the #GoldRiver / #Tahsis areas of northern #VancouverIsland especially with regards to the forest resource, without the consent of his nation.

Hereditary Chief Jerry Jack says the claim filed today seeks title to about 66,000 hectares of land from #FriendlyCove to Tahsis in the north and #ButtleLake in the east, and an undisclosed amount of financial compensation.

  15. *White men speak with forked tongues*

The federal government is blocking First Nations leaders in British Columbia from participating in consultations to address the badly backlogged Jordan's Principle children's program, CBC Indigenous has learned.

The move came shortly before Prime Minister Justin Trudeau appeared at the Assembly of First Nations (AFN) chiefs' meeting in Ottawa last week, where he touted his past pledge to find "a new way of working together" that includes "welcoming you to be part of the conversations."

However, federal lawyers had just withheld consent for the B.C.-based First Nations Leadership Council to take part in the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal-ordered talks, citing what the government called "practical reasons" — prompting some leaders to condemn the disconnect.

  17. [video] #Quechan Elder Urges Solidarity in Face of #Mining Efforts

    #SMPGold’s #OroCruz Project Threatens #SacredLands, #PrestonArrowWeed Says

by Juan Valencia on October 9, 2023

"IMPERIAL COUNTY — Imagine Jerusalem burning. Imagine Mecca, Bethlehem — any of these cities important to the history and faith of their respective religions — being destroyed, disrespectfully invaded, and irrevocably altered for the sake of exploration, extraction, and #mining.

T"hough these are far-fetched and horrific developments to the imagination, 83-year-old Preston Arrow-Weed — the Quechan tribal elder, cultural bearer, singer of the old songs, as well as author, actor and playwright — today paints a similarly bleak picture regarding the threats being made to his holy place of worship.

"This place is located here in the desert outskirts of #ImperialCounty and in the neighboring #YumaCounty.

"Southern Empire Resources Corp. (SMP Gold) is a company based out of British Columbia, Canada, which for years now has been attempting to mine for gold within these Imperial County areas, specifically the #CargoMuchacho and #IndianPass regions, in a project of mineral exploration for the purposes of extracting gold that they are calling the Oro Cruz Project.

"'We firmly believe that Oro Cruz has exploration potential for more than a million ounces,' states SMP Gold’s project mission on its website. 'We’ll explore the property using modern geological theory and high tech methods of exploration, and see what we can do.'

"For millennia, the Indian Pass area in eastern Imperial County, where SMP Gold plans to drill and disturb the habitat, has held religious and historical significance for the Quechan Tribe. The area contains sleeping circles, #geoglyphs and pottery shards left behind by the tribe’s ancestors, to name some #artifacts."
