Although #AI #slop does sometimes seep into the real world, the vast majority of it is currently spread online. That means all of us here who are chronically online have a strategically important position, by pure serendipity.
Be that person who never spreads #AI #aiCRAP and #aiPISS. Be that person who refuses to engage with generated slop; who points out AI media in their family chat; who discourages their friends from using chatbots and image generators to solve their problems.
Your voice matters, *especially* online, which is great, because this is where we are, a lot. Build a reputation as a curator of *human* content who consistently rejects AI slop. Be an oasis of sanity in a world collectively losing their minds.

I’m saddened that so many young folks are going through their formative educational years immersed in #AI #slop. There is a good chance that they will internalize AI’s style as their own: a weird kind of uncanny, bland, obsequious, error-filled garbage style.
But I’m also encouraged that many of them recognize that AI is part of the greed and exploitation that is robbing them of their future, and they are soundly rejecting it.
There is hope, and I will try to help to keep that hope going.

There is someone who has taken a lot of old films and used AI to colorize them badly and "boosted" the frame rate from 24 to 60fps and then uploaded this trash to the Internet Archive.
I hate this. Films shot in b&w have an aesthetic that is destroyed by colorizing them. Video games might look better with more frames per second but movies don't. We didn't accidentally settle on 24fps, it was trial and error. A film shot in 60fps looks bad. A movie that has been artificially "boosted" to 60fps is an abomination and should be destroyed.

The headline says the number of people using "AI" at work is "suddenly" falling, but the article content makes it clear: this has been going on since February. It should really say: "'AI' use at workplaces shows steady decline over past 10 months".
I guess people are figuring out it's so janky and error-prone, it's simpler to just do the work themselves.

It's kind of easy to see how broken and morally bankrupt the #MusicStreaming business model by #Spotify and Co is if you consider that none of the major streaming services simply bans #AI generated #music. They just want to keep you streaming. They don't give a flying fuck about art, artists and music.

Judging by the ads for so-called AI glasses the glasses are not AI at all, just a gimmick to deliver #AIcrap.
What would real AI glasses do. Use sensors to keep your prescription up to date and as your eyes changed, and a sensor to determine what you are looking at to provide clear focus on that, and of course adjust for lighting conditions and provide UV filtering. etc.
But that would require developing real technology which the tech bros abandoned years ago.

It looks like some C-level exec at Soundcloud decided, "Hey, we're making too much money, and our users actually trust us or something. We've got to remedy that situation! Seriously, I want to turn this place into a ghost town, where all our content's been moved elsewhere by its creators."

As much as I like to hate AI tech, I just had a “conversation” with ChatGPT asking to explain how “assault marriage “ would look like.
I then asked it to make it capitalistic society. The response was fascinating. The more I read, the more I could relate to the current state of things.
This could definitely happen in the future if humanity continues to fall from grace.
This brings me to the point of religion so I asked it to assume the society has religious extremism. It was at this point where it took a weird turn but it was fun nonetheless.

This piece makes the good point that "suspicion of the em dash also speaks to our mounting paranoia over automated communication" — we know there are people passing off AI crap as their own writing, and we want to be able to spot it. But the em dash "cannot be a reliable metric of AI reliance for the simple reason that it is a case of the software mimicking *human* writing patterns."

I've been writing using em dashes since the 1990s. The reason AI uses em dashes is because it was trained on my writing, and that of countless other humans like me.
