  1. A record number of #Palestinian children are being held in administrative detention in Israeli #prisons without charge or trial, a report by a children’s rights organisation has revealed.

“360 Palestinian children are detained in Israeli prisons as of June 30, the latest data available from the Israel Prison Service (IPS), which is the highest number since early 2016,” Defense for Children International – Palestine (DCI-P) reported this week.

“147 children, or 41 percent of the total, are held in administrative detention without charge or trial, which is both the highest number and the highest proportion on record since Defense for Children International – Palestine began monitoring these numbers in 2008,” the report added.

....The continued detention and abuse of Palestinian children demand immediate international attention and intervention to uphold #humanrights and #justice.

These numbers only tell part of the story, however, as countless abuses behind the scenes remain undocumented. There is no exact data on the number of children Israelis have abducted or “disappeared” without a trace from #Gaza since October 7.

  2. Only one in four detainees from #Gaza are identified as fighters by Israel’s military intelligence, classified data indicates, with civilians making up the vast majority of #Palestinians held without charge or trial in abusive #prisons.

Those jailed for long periods without charge or trial include medical workers, teachers, civil servants, #media workers, writers, sick and disabled people and children.

...Israel is also holding up to 300 Palestinians from Gaza suspected of taking part in the 7 October attacks. They are in criminal detention because Israel says it has sufficient evidence to prosecute them, although no trials have been held.

...Israel’s unlawful combatants legislation allows indefinite detention without producing evidence in open court.

....“We kept releasing people ‘for free’, and it made [soldiers] angry,” the source said. “[The soldiers] would say: ‘They’re not returning hostages, so why should we let them go?’”

Israeli politicians have expressed similar sentiments.

  3. 20-year-old Palestinian administrative detainee Ahmad Tazaaz'a, from Jenin, died yesterday in the Israeli prison of Megiddo. His family says he had no prior health issues prior to his detention nine months ago.

His death brings the death toll among detainees to 76 since the start of Israel's genocidal war on #Gaza, during which extreme violence, including #torture and #starvation, has been widely used against the detainees.

They execute people without charges into their prisons. This is "the only #democracy of #MiddleEast".
