Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee (HICPAC) becomes the latest casualty of Trump regime
They were close to finalizing guidelines for airborne infection control in hospitals, including the use of N95 masks.
Hospital acquired COVID has a 10% mortality rate. We’re seeing the worst measles outbreak in a decade. Drug resistant fungus is on the rise.
Cutting the people whose sole job was to reduce hospital acquired infections will just lead to more death, disability and healthcare worker attrition.
This isn’t how you eliminate the chronic disease epidemic, it’s how you eliminate the chronically ill.

Ok, the #HICPAC website still says tentative for March 6-7, but over email they tell me:
The March HICPAC meeting has been delayed to allow sufficient time for public comment and for HHS and CDC to set up a process for review and prioritization of the agenda.
Updates will be posted on the HICPAC website. -
Hmm, the CDC #HICPAC website says they will have a meeting March 6-7, in a few weeks. But there's no agenda and the deadline for the public comment lottery is not given on the site.
I know that RFK Jr has indefinitely postponed the ACIP meeting.... Has anyone heard about HICPAC? -

“The question regarding whether source control (masking) should always be used in facilities had only one supporting vote. This was surprising because health care facilities are where sick patients congregate. Facilities will, thus, have higher rates of spread than found in communities.”

Im so sad and mad at #HICPAC , they voted all wrong today on how to respond to the #CDC 's 4 questions, even after 2 days of heartfelt, angry, pleading, demanding, professional, patient, every kind of public comment. We did our part. They did not do theirs. RIP #PublicHealth , you died years ago anyways, guess it's every one for themself now, and most people want to get infected and infect others with #covid and #longcovid .

Not sure what to think about the fact that both the Zoom meeting (for public commenters) and the public stream (on Youtube) showed only a timer during the public comments.
In a previous written public comment to #HICPAC, I criticized the members who were checking email during the public comment period. IDK if they have stopped *doing that* but they certainly stopped *showing that*

#CDC Advised To Weaken Infection Protections
> Aerosol researcher Jose-Luis Jimenez @jljcolorado added, “The Cochrane Review is scientific garbage.” He continued, “There is high-quality evidence from many angles that shows that, of course, #N95 masks are better.”
> Jimenez, was also critical that #HICPAC is “ignoring the huge body of evidence coming out of the pandemic” that most respiratory viruses have airborne transmission. “They don't mention ventilation at all. They don't address all the measures that you can do to remove the virus from room air.”
