Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee (HICPAC) becomes the latest casualty of Trump regime
They were close to finalizing guidelines for airborne infection control in hospitals, including the use of N95 masks.
Hospital acquired COVID has a 10% mortality rate. We’re seeing the worst measles outbreak in a decade. Drug resistant fungus is on the rise.
Cutting the people whose sole job was to reduce hospital acquired infections will just lead to more death, disability and healthcare worker attrition.
This isn’t how you eliminate the chronic disease epidemic, it’s how you eliminate the chronically ill.

Ok, the #HICPAC website still says tentative for March 6-7, but over email they tell me:
The March HICPAC meeting has been delayed to allow sufficient time for public comment and for HHS and CDC to set up a process for review and prioritization of the agenda.
Updates will be posted on the HICPAC website. -
Hmm, the CDC #HICPAC website says they will have a meeting March 6-7, in a few weeks. But there's no agenda and the deadline for the public comment lottery is not given on the site.
I know that RFK Jr has indefinitely postponed the ACIP meeting.... Has anyone heard about HICPAC? -

Not sure what to think about the fact that both the Zoom meeting (for public commenters) and the public stream (on Youtube) showed only a timer during the public comments.
In a previous written public comment to #HICPAC, I criticized the members who were checking email during the public comment period. IDK if they have stopped *doing that* but they certainly stopped *showing that*

#HICPAC is meeting August 22. I imagine, but don't know, that the "Guideline for Isolation Precautions: Preventing Transmission of Infectious Agents in Healthcare Settings" will be discussed. I contacted them to ask for an agenda.
The Submission Period for Requests to Make an Oral Public Comment is July 26, 2024, through 11:59 p.m. August 12, 2024.

That's the CDC's response to #HICPAC's first (unacceptable) version of the isolation precautions guideline. I presume, but don't know, that the June 6-7 HICPAC meeting will feature HICPAC's response to CDC's letter as well as the public reaction. -

I have to stop reading the public comments to #HICPAC and do my day job. But -- wow. So many thoughtful and articulate people, some sharing tragic stories of nosocomial COVID infections, and some sharing inspiring examples of how they are "living with COVID" by using airborne-oriented NPIs to make their spaces and interactions safer.
And I've just skimmed a few pages. The written public comments run from page 111 to 729!!!!
