Today I am officially starting my IndieWeb adventure! I've been reading and hemming and hawing and procrastinating and today this is it! The goal is to have THE MOST BASIC PAGE (literally not even going to share it yet) up and running. I'll make it prettier and cool and Geocities level flashy later.

I like eye-candy for my #WordPress #hCard and for the longest time I did override the generic icon for missing SVGs via CSS. This never fixed the titles thought and after starting to mass non descriptive links all named “website” I started to dig into the code class-relme-domain-icon-map.php of the #IndieWeb plugin.
Turns out Rel_Me_Domain_Icon_Map does some file system shacking for unknown domains in wp-content/plugins/indieweb/static/svg/ so I fixed myself some symbolic links:
discuss-dot-tchncs-dot-de.svg -> lemmy.svg
live-dot-famkos-dot-net.svg -> owncast.svg
nerdpol-dot-ch.svg -> diaspora.svg
social-dot-tchncs-dot-de.svg -> mastodon.svg
t-dot-me.svg -> telegram.svg
tube-dot-tchncs-dot-de.svg -> peertube.svg
[...]The title is read directly from the SVG so adding a title tag so custom SVGs helps with that.
That’s a lot of CSS that I can remove now 🤓

Sehr (positiv) überrascht war ich auch über die Verbreitung einzelner RDFa und eRDF Formate:
- RDFa: 427,000,000
- eRDF: 470,000,000
(X)HTML wird vielleicht doch noch ein RDF/OWL Ersatz 🙂

Portable Contacts (schicker als ich dachte)
In der aktuellen Folge (Episode 5: The Portable Contacts Initiative) sprechen John McCrea, Joseph Smarr und Chris Messina über das Portable Contacts - Projekt über welches ich vor kurzem noch so gescholten habe... Und ich muss sagen, ich hatte unrecht! Ich glaube kleine Gruppen mit dem Fokus auf ein spezielles Problem können wesentlich effektiver arbeiten als eine so große und über die ganze Welt verstreute Organisation wie DataPortability (da wird wohl auch die Steering Group nichts [...]

Liest man die letzten Meldungen über Digg bei Techcrunch könnte man meinen eine hCard und ein bisschen XFN reichen um DataPortability zu betreiben.

Happy Birthday „real world semantics“
Gestern vor vier Jahren hielten Tantek Çelik and Kevin Marks eine Präsentation über "real world semantics". Die Präsentation machte an Beispielen wie XFN und einigen rel-Design-Pattern klar, wie es Designern und Entwicklern möglich ist, mit bestehenden Formaten wie X/HTML semantisch zu arbeiten.
Mittlerweile hat sich aus ein paar HTML Design Pattern eine große Open-Standards-Bewegung entwickelt, aus der noch mind. ein Duzent neuer (sog.) Mikroformate heraus entstanden sind. [...]

Mit wevent Freundeslisten importieren
Die Jungs von wevent haben ein neues Feature zum Importieren von Freundeslisten implementiert. Der Import funktioniert wie auch bei dopplr über das hCard Microformat. Das heißt, es ist möglich bestehende sozialen Netze (Twitter, Last.fm, …) über einen Klick an wevent zu übertragen.
Und um das ganze noch mehr zu vereinfachen habe ich ein kleines Operator Script geschrieben welches die hCard URL an das Import Script übergibt.
Installationsanleitung:
- Zuerst müsst ihr das Script (wevent.js) lokal speichern.
- Dann öffnet ihr die JavaScript Datei über Options->User Scripts->New
- Mit „OK“ bestätigen
- Firefox neu starten
- Fertig 🙂
Wenn Dennis und Sören das ganze auch noch für hCalendar umgesetzt haben gibt’s natürlich auch ein Update für das Script.
