Things I have heard people say (IRL)--worse as you go up the economic ladder:
"I'll pay someone to do that, why would I waste my time doing that?"
"I don't want to learn how to do that, I'll just get someone else to do it"
"Walk there?!? Why not drive there, that's why I have a car"
"I'll just buy a new one, it's not worth fixing it"
"Why are you keeping that old thing? I buy a new one every year"
"You're so out of fashion, why don't you have the latest <insert device here>"
"We pay people to do that"
"I don't clean up stuff, we have a service to do that for us"
"I just use Doordash/Ubereats, I don't have time to go down to the restaurant"
"You know they have a service to do laundry for you, don't you?"Nowadays, same philosophy:
"I just use the LLM, it's so much easier"(IMHO)

The AI religion is stronger than the Blockchain religion, and affecting far more people. 😢 Seems like no one wants to hear any "AI negativity". (Externalize the costs--as long as they aren't personally affected immediately by the costs -- energy usage and impacts on the climate, the social impacts, job losses, etc.-- it's a "useful tool" for them personally they don't care). #griping

Skipped whatever plague my son had two weeks ago (was masking up in class as to not give it to students), but this week the students had another kind of pestilence, and I should have probably masked up too, and then some lady manning the register at the store was sniffling and chatting with her friend about how everyone in her household came down with something that morning, and I was mulling my poor decision not to mask up to run in and out quickly for something. We have learned nothing, because the people WHO ARE SICK won't mask up or stay home. 😬 #griping

It's not enough this year to subscribe to MLB TV... no, no... now it seems so many of the games are behind additional local paywalls within the app, so if you want to watch many of the games live, you have to *upgrade* your plan (which is a new option) 🤨
(this is different than normal blackout—that still happens with great frequency too). -
Boy, the ARRL does not make it easy to figure out what is in their magazine anymore, especially if you're not a current member. It used to be your magazine/newsletter was the way you recruited new members and got the news out about your hobby/cause. I think they decided it's now a profit center. 🤔
(I admit to letting my membership lapse, because they no longer send magazines unless you pay an additional premium to get the magazine... )

Budget cuts showing at NWS Los Angeles... it was bad before Jan 2025, it's now worse. Warnings/watches being issued, but no graphics posted on their website. (maybe posted on the bad place, or the Zucker-privacy-sucker site, but not elsewhere).

Hmm, went to the *other* local LBS today to pick up some tires (special ordered online, because they don't normally carry any road bike gear), and feel like this shop's owner also has a similar "why aren't there any people in here buying ebikes" angst. I wonder if all the bricks and mortar stores around here are suffering financially, and the "random guy bicycling in for repair parts" just isn't doing it for them. (It also may be I am incorrectly reading their emotional state...) Comment today (after I picked up a few additional things on top of the already $150 order in tires) and paid for the additional $3.50 was "it probably costs me that much when you use a credit card"... which may be somewhat true -- it's probably 50 cents plus 1 to 2%. But I just bought $150 worth of stuff from them too.

Trying to buy a house. Dancing around with my checkbook open. My realtor’s attitude seems to be “meh.”
We missed two houses already (one of them is my fault for not trying to drive it home) but the other was definitely her group’s. This *AWESOME* one of a kind house was for sale, and my dad was like “jeez it looks like a museum” which was exactly the vibe I loved about it.
Nope. Pending already by someone who is not us.
I’m in no mood for this.

Bleah. Failed to get a smog check. The normal smog check place I go do, the sole proprietor took Friday off. The other place (car repair) place wanted to put me in line 1-2 hrs wait, no way... Try again next week. Burnt some time and wasted gas on that. (usually drive a bit before the smog check to make sure engine/etc. all warmed up). #griping #random

A SAAS product I am working with has documentation with an AI-powered "search" box that hallucinates answers instead of providing plain-text search with links.
Who thought that was a good idea?
... Have they ever tried to use their own documentation?

Well, it finally happened: DuckDuckGo implemented AI chat and summaries.
Maybe this isn't new to folks who have been paying attention, but it was new to me today.
As usual, the feature no one asked for, just destined to eat up a few more computing resources and return an extra, iffy result that I'll very intentionally ignore.
The one upside: At least you can go into the settings pretty easily and shut it off for now.

Okay, it's inane I have just built some software to scrape the blog posts off FEMA's "blog site" because it has no RSS or ATOM feed. Hopefully will have it auto-updating to one of my bots soon, but really. Also, shame on the USGS and other websites which block my attempts to pull their actual RSS feed off their website, they won't let automated processes pull the RSS (i.e. non-browser signature requests via wget/curl/python). Can be spoofed and fixed, but what a PITA.

Hmm, took a zinc and hoping for the best. One of my relatives was sniffly in the car, I should have just wore an N95 when picking them up from the airport and dealt with the crap I'd get about wearing a mask from the family. (I generally don't care about what anyone things, but in-family politics are something else...). "But the pandemic is over, that's what the CDC said" normies. #griping

Our upstairs neighbors (not the ones over us; the unit next to them) are moving. Last week, furniture and boxes were removed, so the place is empty. The guy who actually lived there was okay, but his friends are yelling, doorslamming, drug-using assholes. They show up every afternoon to play loud music, shout to each other down the stairs and just be a nuisance. No idea what they're doing in there. Wish they'd fuck the fuck off already. #Griping #CondoHell #WeNeedAHouse

It's great when you have a clean XML to map with the xsd provided.
IMHO: if an element is optional and you don't have the values for it. Don't generate the element tags, let alone the full element tags with no value.
i.e. <mytag></mytag>

This annoys me a little every time I buy an NJTransit ticket. The machine knows if I bought one or multiple tickets. I used to program, and I know that it would take one line of code to fix “ticket(s)”. But presumably that wasn’t in the spec, and nobody has any reason to fix it now.
