  1. Baby #GoonShow: Down among the Z men (1952)

Only one playing fairly straight in the quite silly plot is baby Peter.

  2. Peter Sellers was one of the finest actors there ever were. I had never realised as I don't enjoy the cringe comedy of Pink Panther or The Party. If only he had not been such a troubled person he would have left so many more classics to enjoy.

I am quite partial to the cherub faced Sellers of the 1950s and Goon period. Some nice person even put "Penny Point to Paradise" on the internet. Now I wish more than ever all Goon Shows had been televised. They were amazing.

  3. Ok, Bluebottle singing the Third Man Theme in the sewers is my favourite sound of (at least) the week.

  4. Okay, so my favourite Goon is now Hercules Grytpype-Thynne. Brilliant name, wonderful intonation and the kind of villain I enjoy. Then it's Bluebottle and Eccles and of course Wallace Greenslade.

I love that some good people put all available episodes on the Internet.

  5. I've been painting the understairs storage area and have got #bbcradio4extra on in the background.
Who knew that Harry Seycombe (Goons, singer, actor etc) was a Wildlife Photographer as well?

  6. One of my favourite Goon Show lines:

"Call a meeting of all the people we keep specially for meetings!"

It seems some things haven't changed a lot since the 1950s...

  7. I remember hearing The Goon Show on the radio in the 80s. It was so much fun.

I recorded loads of episodes on cassette tape, then lent them to my English teacher. Never saw them again of course. Luckily they're online!

  8. Grytpype-Thynne: Moriarty, go and slam the door in his face.

Moriarty: He hasn't got a door in his face.

    Grytpype-Thynne: Then he's trapped...

  9. George Martin was born on 3 January 1926.

As well as his groundbreaking work with #TheBeatles, George produced some enduring and innovative comedy records, including the #BeyondTheFringe cast recording, bestselling records with #PeterSellers, a #GoonShow LP and Right Said Fred by #BernardCribbins.

  10. Wondering if I could write a "The #GoonShow made me a hacker" article, and mean it...

  11. One of my favorite #GoonShow dialogue snippets, which I think of whenever anyone mentions "pulling yourself up by your bootstraps":

Seagoon: Eccles, stand on my shoulders and then pull me up!
    Eccles: right.
    both: grunting/straining sounds
Eccles: I'd like to see them do this on television.
