When your friend asks you to see whether you can get his built-in-October 2000 #Gateway2000 PC (which has been stored in a leaky garage for at *least* 15 years) to boot up so as to extract data from the HDD and you decide to open it up first to be safe… 😱

I’ve decided to extract the HDD and connect it up via an IDE to USB adapter instead. Just in case! -
I bought a batch of surplus equipment from the local university and included on the pallet was this piece of computing history from 1997. Yep, that’s a pre-rebrand Gateway 2000 E-3000 Pentium box. It’s got a network card, a modem, and what looks suspiciously like an old SoundBlaster card. And it’s retro beige all over.
I haven’t opened it up yet or tried to power it on, but I’ll follow up in this thread when I get a chance to investigate further.

Présenté à l'Amiwest de Sacramento en 1999, ce proto de l'air Gateway n'est jamais allé plus loin que ce boîtier imaginé par Pentagram.
