Video evidence that I do, on occasion, still skateboard.
This 540 kickflip was very much a last minute decision. I had no idea if itβd work - the shock on my face as I rolled away was real. I genuinely thought Iβd just done a 540 shuvit at first; these shouldnβt feel that easy.

Danse Macabre
I did the original graphic design for a skateboard and, thanks to P1NKY, I decided to ANSIfy it with slight modifications

Work has kept me away from doing much with personal photography (and, by extension, Mastodon) for a while now, but I do occasionally get to tap into my personal #BelieveInFilm archive to illustrate an article (in this case the WFSA's mid-season ranking update for #FreestyleSkateboarding: https://wfsafreestyle.org/events/wfsa-ranking/wfsa-ranking-2025-mid-season-update/)
I love this photo and really need to get back into the darkroom to figure out how to get a decent print of it.

I've talked a bit on here lately about flash bulbs. This is why: I want to leverage the higher sync speeds of bulb flash on my Leicas (both IIIf and IIIg) to do some interesting skateboard photography.
This shot (of myself - I had to hand the camera to a friend!) uses one off-camera PF6B "flat peak" bulb at a higher shutter speed than I could manage with an electronic flash.
(Leica IIIf, 35mm Summaron, Fomapan 400 at 1/200 & f/5.6)

I don't post about #skateboarding often on here - I like keeping different parts of my life separate - but with @loops coming together, I figure it's time for me to put some skating on the #Fediverse.
If you're already on Loops, you can find me on there (@coldkennels, same as everywhere).
I never joined TikTok on principle, and I hate Instagram with a passion. Here's hoping Loops can be a new home for the #FreestyleSkateboarding community.
Here's a little clip of this nonsense as a taster.

I donβt usually post #skateboarding stuff on here but after almost a full year of dealing with various injuries, this feels bloody good.
(Now excuse me while I go douse myself in tiger balm and pummel myself with a muscle roller)

#Skateboarding is hard and sometimes you just really need to lie down.

@shom @Bittersuesz Agreed. I've seen it a lot in my "real life" as a "professional skateboarder"; the learning curve is even harder (and more daunting) there. But knowledge is power, and providing knowledge in a way that allows people to progress at their own speed is always going to lead to better results than saying "just do what you want to do! Be inspired and be free!"

Day 22: One of the best things about shooting #freestyleskateboarding is you can spot the shot first, and then find a skater good (or dumb) enough to fit the shot.
We were killing time in Brandenburg when I thought a trick on this dock would look good. Dan Garb stepped up to the plate; I warned him I wasn't going to be held responsible for any boards lost in the river. I don't think he cared.

Day 9: My first big trip of the year was out to France for a #FreestyleSkateboarding competition in April.
It rained. And even when it wasn't raining, it was overcast, dim, and a fairly miserable experience. As such, the photographs weren't great - but at least the camaraderie was strong.

I do wish more of the #freestyleskateboarding crowd were on here. I think that's the only reason I still have an Instagram account at this point, and I'd love to just bin it off for good.

I've had some work published for the first time in years!
A guy I know in the US has started an online #skateboarding magazine and, after seeing some of my photos, asked to feature a bunch - and interview me on my cameras of choice and the use of film in the modern age.
You can buy and download the full thing here for just Β£3.49: https://www.lulu.com/shop/bud-stratford/everything-skateboarding-issue-one-july-2023/ebook/product-8vmdz6.html

I usually only post film photography stuff on here, but this is - genuinely - what my βcareerβ is.
And Iβve barely done it at all since September due to injury, so getting back in shape is proving tough.

I took this photo back in 2017. I was really excited about the shot, and knew it came together well... but other stuff that happened at this event soured the experience so much I didn't develop the roll until 2021, by which time the opportunity to use the shot as intended had long passed.
It's a real shame - it came out perfect. Not sure what to do with it now.
