Mistodon: this #ANSIart screen by @codefenix has been patiently waiting a very long time for us to get around to releasing our next video games-themed artpack, but other themes somehow keep getting in the way. In the meantime, however, #Metroid turns 40 today, so we can't not share this portrait of #Samus in the #ZeroSuit! The galaxy is at peace.

Mistodon: sometimes we celebrate canonical classics established through the ages and sometimes, as in Ratatouille, we discover and defend the new. In this #ANSIart screen Moth (with help from LDA) reproduces the cover photograph of a new entomological monograph, #DianeWYoung's #AdventuresInAMinorOrder, pertaining to the #booklice and #barklice of #psosoptera. This piece was included in last month's books-themed MIST0426 artpack collection.

Mistodon: this small #ANSIart (or #blockASCII) quickie #werewolf illustration, 'Howl', in the monochrome pixelart style of EzeeShady, was a very welcome guest appearance by @TheGreenHerring in last month's spooky MIST1024 artpack collection.

Mistodon: to you, it's just an #OrangeShirt that AdeptApril has illustrated in #ANSIart. But if you're in Canada, the shirt represents the imposition of the #ResidentialSchool system on Indigenous children for around a century and a half, removing them from the care of their parents and extinguishing their language and culture in a slow-moving campaign of genocide. We wear the symbolic garment today in a gesture in support of #TruthAndReconcilation.

Mistigram: The first #ANSIart screen we profile from the new #fineart-themed MIST0424 artpack collection is this composition by @_n1tr0n, a juxtaposition of #sailboat racing with the neo-plasticism of #DeStijl painter #PietMondrian. The artist/sailor states he depicts: “my favorite moment in a boat race, the approach to the windward mark… the mondrian colors are supposed to reflect the elements of the scene, the sea, the sun, the sky, the racing spirit of the crew in red… I drew that ANSI the day I decided to sell the boat, actually.”

This image is secretly responsible for the specific timing of the release of our fine art collection, as tracking down the specific fate of a particular Nitron guest submission resulted in the discovery of an entire trove of worthwhile artworks on this theme that had been carefully stashed away and then forgotten about.
