  1. Very excited that #FiberuaryChallenge has made it here! I did #fiberuary a couple of years ago and met some great people and saw lovely work here because of it.

Intro post from me - I’m London-based, always knitting and/ or sewing, with a bit of tapestry, embroidery, occasional weaving and mending on the side

  2. The plying's done, and this morning I wound the yarn into skeins so I can wash it. 8 ounces of three-ply yarn, 924 yards before washing. (The yarn will almost certainly floof and lose a few yards in the wash, which is desired. I'll re-measure when I wind it up to knit with.)

My next project will be a gradient spin.

  3. One of the kiddos wasn't interested in the board game that was going on, so I brought out the Pollywog and taught her to spin. She got the basics pretty quickly and went home with a little ball of her very own yarn.

What a great way to kick off #fiberuary! 🧶

  4. @jocelyn hi Jocelyn, I know you’ve got about a million tips now, so might be a bit overwhelmed! One thing I found was super-useful for getting to know more #knitting and #sewing friends here was to follow a few events too - great posts on #fiberuary #memademay and #fallfinishalong gave me some more ideas about who would be good to follow. All very seasonal, but I have found some fantastic people as a result, hope that you do too

  10. Well… various sites said spin fine and ply for thickness… this may have been a little too fine 😳

It needs to dry before I attempt plying. Not sure whether to do 2, 3 or 4 ply though - nervous about rewinding this fine thread off onto weaving bobbins (or my wrist!)

Edit - should have said what it is - ramie!

  11. @kamikat @sewing I was wondering if #memademay was a thing over here too? I really enjoyed #fiberuary (which I think came from Instagram too?), would love to see everyone’s makes in the feed here in May

  12. Working my way thru this fantastic crochet book. Two animals completed, (fox and sheep), 18 animals to go. Lion is next. #cats #blackcats #MaineCoon #Crochet #fiberuary

  13. One for all of my @knitting #knitting #fiberuary friends! Susan Crawford’s excellent A Stitch in Time Vol 2 is being reissued, focussing on the most popular designs, with more inclusive sizing. If you love vintage knitting patterns (or lovely knitting books) I would highly recommend susancrawfordvintage.com/produ

  14. Closing out with my least ambitious #VisibleMending, I suppose, a single stitch torn on my dog's sweater. I find dog sweaters very freeing as a medium since my dog hates everything I put on her equally.

Having done one single stitch, more seemed to be called for, so I tried my first embroidery in perhaps twenty years. I suspect this is very indifferent embroidery, but it makes me happy! #Fiberuary

  15. The sleeping bag is ancient but my husband still likes to use it on the sofa while surfing the webs, so I patched it. Then I patched the patch because the fabric was shattering as I went along. Sometimes mending isn't about wisdom.

    forgot the tags! #Fiberuary #mending

  16. done!!! (save for end-weaving once it's blocked)

i started this sweater in july 2021 for a christmas gift lol

  17. I’m so close to finishing these socks! But I’m doing a K1P1 (with the K twisted) ribbing for the cuff, so I also really don’t enjoy knitting them at the moment. #knitting #FiberArts #Fiberuary

  18. I've spent several evenings frogging back a large knitting project and winding the yarn on a swift. Dull dull dull, with occasional bouts of untangling.
Tonight I soaked and towel-dried the skeins to unkink them. Next step is a few more hours of ball winding.

  19. #Fiberuary -#FixesAndMending

Seeing all those pictures of other people doing the great jobs in mending things, I finally succumbed and got out a pair of socks that had a hole.

The thread was broken, I suspect it was caught somewhere because the break was rather clean. It were two threads and I tried an invisible mend. Only partially successful, but it's at the ankle so not that visible anyway.

  20. #fiberuary - #FixesAndMends

I'm not good at mending, I don't have the patience for it.

I'm even worse at invisible mending. Se exhibit A.

Here the added challenge was that the problem section was reverse stockinette stitch. While I'm fairly comfortable in double stitching on a stockinette surface it works far less well on the other side so it looks actually better on the inside - duh.

  25. update on day one of #100DaysOfWardrobe:

I actually spent a large portion of today #knitting (and listening to podcasts), and it was nice!

the first image is from the pattern, and the second is a close up of my #WIP. I'm using a slightly scratchy, bulky weight, 100% wool yarn, Mauch Chunky, and the color pictured is Eggplant. I don't have enough of that one color for the whole thing, so the arms will be a different color, but I think it'll work

  26. good morning, 12 inches of snow!!! (#SaltLakeCity is predicted to get another 4-9 inches of snow today???)

good thing I don't have to leave my house if I don't want to. good thing I picked up my groceries yesterday.

I am quite tired today. BUT my plans for today include starting a new #fiberArts piece for both #fiberuary and #100DaysOfWardrobe ... I just have to check my yarn stash, and then I'll post more about it. maybe I'll make some tea first 😴

  27. #Fiberuary week 4 #FixesAndMends

I'm not great on mending, but fixing. Give me a mistake in #knitting: Challenge accepted.

For example that one time when I did "Extreme 2-in-1 Socks" by Kory Stamper from @knittymag knitty.com/ISSUEfall06/FEAText
Of course I messed up by wrapping the yarn from the inner sock around a stitch from the outer sock.

I dropped that st about 20 rows down (of course that was on a decrease line) and worked everything back up.

  39. #Fiberuary - last day of #IntentionalHoles

Today the most basic type of "#lace " sts - yarn overs. All they do here is create the v-neck shaping.

Pattern is "Wednesday Morning" from Drops, yarn is #handspun #Corridale from World of Wool. Yarn was aran weight instead of worsted, so I made one size smaller.

My daughter gets a lot of compliments for the sweater, especially when she says it's #handknit

  40. For #fiberuary intentional holes week... I'm not totally sure if these holes are intentional? But one of the joys of shared crafting space is you can always imagine you've come across the traces of an inspired idea. #TextileMakerspace

  41. Today's post for #fiberuary #IntentionalHoles is a sock I'm mostly done #knitting—it's the Van Dyke sock from _Socks from the Toe Up_ that I posted earlier this week.

This pair will probably be subtly different;— this being my first toe-up, I'll need to adjust my measurements.

  42. #Fiberuary - #IntentionalHoles day 6

#Lace #knitting - pattern is "Shetland Tea Shawl" - a traditional #shetland shawl, circular, extremely lacy.

I've given it away a long time ago, because while I very much enjoyed knitting it (it went surprisingly quickly) I'm absolutely not the person to wear such shawls.

The most fascinating thing is always the transformation that happens through blocking.

  43. It’s done! Blocked and added to Ravelry and ready to be wrapped and shipped out next week to baby. I’m so looking forward to the new parents receiving it. And also, welcoming the mental bandwidth to start my next project, this time for me.

  44. Sharing some more #IntentionalHoles for this #fiberuary week and catching up on missed #caturday
This is Aurelia Shawl by Charles Voth available on Ravelry and Lovecraft. I made it with Hobbii Cotton Kings gradient cake yarn. Our Samantha was helping me finish it.

  45. When I was a poor student ...

    #Fiberuary - #IntentionalHoles in #crochet.

I was a student in the 1990ies - back when knitting went mostly out of style, #lys disappeared and good #knitting #yarn was hard to find and / or very expensive.

Cotton thread could be bought at #IKEA for 4 DM for 2,000 m. That amount went a looong way. So I crocheted doilies, which now live at my mom's house (bad pictures as I can't access them easily). 0.6 mm hook.

    @crochet @fiberarts #fiberarts

  46. Turns out my absolute favorite shawl, showing #IntentionalHoles is the
Shipwreck Shawl by Knitting Harpy. I was always sceptical about Pi shawls because I thought there was no good way to wear them. I was so wrong!
