@[email protected] An obscure one, probably. For my favourite character whose name begins with V I am choosing Valashu Elahad, of the Eä Cycle by David Zindell. Prince of the Nine Kingdoms, empath who feels the pain of everything around him, Val embarks on a quest for the grail, finds it, falsely claims to be the maitreya, and loses it again. He has a lot of growing up to do and everywhere to go if he's going to thwart the angel Morjin and prevent the release of Angra Mainyu, but I find him and his story charming, and think of it often. #FavCharacterAtoZ, #FavCharacterV

@ami_angelwings For #FavCharacterV in time travel, I think it needs to go to Vivy, from "Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song". I'm not certain though, as I haven't had the chance to see that anime.
Basic plot, someone returns from a future where AI has been taking over the world, to recruit the world's first known AI, Vivy, in making a new timeline. Can come up tangentially when Steins;Gate is mentioned. Feels topical. Anyone out there in #FavCharacterAtoZ land know it?

@ami_angelwings My #FavCharacterV is Vax'Ildan from Critical Role Campaign 1/The Legend of Vox Machina, without question. There's a beauty and a poetry to the tragedy of a damned man fighting in service of the goddess that damned him to save a world he won't get to share with other people, because life is valuable and worth protecting even if the world is unfair and you weren't allowed to take part. He's a reminder of how death makes life beautiful, and how the people we leave behind are precious
He's also just a fun, pithy rogue character and those are impossible to dislike for me.

Victor McDade (pronounced "Mc Day-eed") retired engineer for Babcock & Wilcox and best friend and co-star of Mr. Jack Jarvis Esq. in Still Game. Where Jack's the more emotionally savvy of the two, Victor is the slightly more intellectual one, meaning he's good at puzzling out mysteries and improvising solutions, but is slightly out of his depth in emotional situations. Victor's used to being the smartest man in the room, until he isn't. -

@ami_angelwings Took me a minute, but I came up with a definite #FavCharacterV choice: Vincent, the French mercenary who ends up working alongside the main character, Sam, in the film Ronin from 1998. Jean Reno's always had a knack for playing the affable but believably dangerous type, and he plays off of Robert De Niro perfectly here. It's a great movie, one I revisit every few years.

In 3rd place for #FavCharacterV, who would have been the third detective on my list had I chosen her (Near & Tsubasa being the other 2): Victorique de Blois from Gosick.
Basically she's Sherlock Holmes as a teenage gothic lolita. >_> She even has a pipe for no reason, and an addiction to sweets instead of opium. She's brilliant and can solve any mystery but can also be extremely self-centered and bratty.
The only reason I didn't pick her as my choice is probably because I find her "Watson" to be very annoying, and I can't get him screaming "VIC-TOR-REE-KA" constantly out of my head >_>
Also the show is a bit weird, and she has a kind of strange supernatural background, & a genetic excuse why she's always going to look like a little girl no matter how old she is.

in 2nd place for #FavCharacterV, the hero of one of my favourite video games of all time:
Vyse from Skies of Arcadia. During a period where most JRPG protagonists were sullen, troubled, or too cool for school, Vyse is an old school "just want to help" good guy. Interested in exploration, helping others, and never giving up hope, Vyse is the heart of Skies, and despite being so "we can do it" that he can be corny at times, the story is driven by his positive attitude. Skies is a pretty dark world that gets darker, and he inspires a lot of characters to be their best selves, to look past vengeance, and to even switch sides.
And at the end, when HE'S feeling hopeless, they pay it all back <3
Also, he ends up in a bisexual thrupple solving the JRPG love triangle trope.

I actually had a very hard time trying to decide between my 3 Vs because they're so different, but I love all 3. I think I've decided but I'm going to do runner ups to talk about the other 2 also.
So my #FavCharacterV is Vetra Nyx from Mass Effect: Andromeda. A hot Turian smuggler who I immediately fell for because of how cool and confident she was when she introduced me to the Tempest and also bribed the guy to let us lift off. She's working for a better life for her sister, Sid, who is adorable, and she's also vulnerable and sensitive underneath her cool cocky exterior. And she hates cops and Liam which makes her even better in my book (she even calls Liam a cop at one point which I was like YES). Oh and she has cool skills.
I romanced her and didn't regret it.

I remembered Vivi Ornitier, the goofy black mage from Final Fantasy IX. It’s been many years but the combination of his cute looks with the seriousness and poignancy of his story have endured. Finding the village of black mages was a high point in that game for me.
