@[email protected] I wouldn't want to choose two consecutively from the same source but there are not a lot of characters whose name begins with U. So my favourite here is Ungoliant, the Unlight, again from The Silmarillion.

She's a great big spider. She eats light and spins it into darkness. She killed the Two Trees of Valinor and fed on the most beautiful light there ever was. She turned on Melkor and if his pleas for help hadn't been answered by multiple balrogs she would have eaten him too. She's the source of all those monstrous spiders we keep seeing all over Middle-earth like Shelob and the ones Bilbo rescued the dwarves from in Mirkwood.

But best of all, we don't know where she came from. Logically she's a spirit of some kind, created by Ilúvatar like everything else, perhaps an ainur corrupted by Melkor in the very beginning, but canonically the only statement we get is that her origins are unknown. As for what happens to her after nearly eating the inventor of evil? Unknown.

I've been ruminating over my choice for #FavCharacterU for awhile since some asshole gave lt. Uhura a first name. I am happy with this choice because he's iconic. I give you the pro wrassler everyone should know, the American Badass, the Dead Man, the Phenom always and forever The Undertaker. I don't watch WWE anymore but when I did it was to see who the Undertaker was going to make an example of next. A star before, during, and after the Attitude Era.

@ami_angelwings I have looked for time travel characters starting with U for #FavCharacterU, and all I've found was my original thought of Usagi Tsukino. Which feels like I'm repeating the same cheat from when I picked Ami Mizuno at A. Continually dancing around Setsuna, the actual source of their time jump.

I may have to rethink some #FavCharacterAtoZ (but S isn't changing!). For now, unless anyone has a better choice, Usagi it is.

@ami_angelwings There's not really a ton of options for #FavCharacterU so I think the only answer I have is Urbosa from Breath of the Wild?

Miyamoto Usagi, AKA Usagi Yojimbo. Not as versed in the character as I'd like to be but it's easy to see why he's remained one of the longest running characters in independent comics. Usagi is a rabbit(-man) who adopted his samurai role for childish reasons and his life has been one long, strange trip that should've stripped him of any sort of belief. And yet.

Since Sailor isn't a rank just like "Super" or "Spider" aren't, Sailor Uranus, if you don't pick her at H, is an S not a U. I also considered cheating & using Ulysses as Odysseus but then I'd be beaten to death by classical literature nerds.

So my #FavCharacterU is Lady Une from Gundam Wing who, I don't care what anybody says about Char & his bazooka, has the iconic headshot in Gundam for me.

Also she's cool & delightfully evil. She wears glasses. She has DID but the show actually engages with it & it's not just for her to be "crazy". She's loyal & brave even if it's to the wrong person, & eventually to the right person.

Also did I mention the headshot?

Throws a dude out a plane & THEN headshots him so she doesn't stain the plane.

Since I cannot or will not try to claim Usagi, Ursula or Utena, let's go with Uyulala. The Southern Oracle is an enigma found only by profound chance and plot needs, speaking only when spoken to... in rhyme, and destined to disappear. Those chapters of the Neverending Story are haunting.
