@[email protected] Túrin Turambar, master of fate, by fate mastered and another of Tolkien's characters. Somehow Morgoth laid a curse on the family of his father, Húrin and I don't really get how that is supposed to work but apparently it's a thing you can do. Or that Valar can do?
Anyway, Túrin's life is a pretty miserable one, for all that the parts where he is sent away as a boy to live in Doriath and be raised as the son of the elven king Thingol remind me of Aragorn's upbringing in Rivendell. He's restless, he's lonely as a human sent to live alone among elves, and every decision he makes is the wrong one.
A court feud leads to the death of an advisor and he exiles himself rather than wait on Thingol's verdict. He sets himself up as a bandit lord and bullies the petty-dwarf Mîm leads to Túrin accidentally slaying his truest friend Beleg (whose black sword inexplicably is sentient and can speak, and resents him ever after)[1].
I love dragons, but for this game I have passed up my chances to talk about Ancalagon the Black, about Smaug, and about Glaurung, the father of dragons. However, Túrin here has perhaps the most on-page dragon contact of anyone aside from maybe Bilbo in The Hobbit, and we get to see just how dangerous and dreadful Tolkien's dragons can be. After Túrin moves to the hidden elven fortress of Nargothrond he encourages them to abandon secrecy and attracts the attention of the dragon Glaurung, who holds him transfixed and helpless with his gaze while Nargothrond is looted and its people taken captive.
Later, when Túrin has again set himself up as a bandit lord and unwittingly married his sister Nienor he comes into conflict with Glaurung again. And although he manages to slay the dragon, Glaurung's last spite lifts the veil on Nienor so that she kills herself and shortly thereafter Túrin follows her into death.
Hard to say really if that's all Morgoth's curse in action or pure misfortune and the worst decisions in history, but I reckon it's a curse. I feel like there's plenty of deniably effective cursing that goes on in this world. I like Túrin partly because he gives us a closer view of some otherwise hard to see parts of Middle-earth, but he also makes a great foil to several other figures in the narrative, showing us just how badly events can unfold. Twilight Sparkle, again for a lot of the same reasons I like Rainbow Dash. She's probably -more- in line with Equestria's whole gentility and fantasy thing than Dash could ever be, and like all good characters this is tinged by the irony that it brings her no joy. Girl is the embodiment of overcommitment to the point one of Gail Simone's episodes is about her finally learning she can just fucking delegate. -

She's such an endlessly fun character to watch, but she's also just got so much to prove to a world that has tried to tell her that she's weak? And she does just that. There's a vindication that's kind of inherent to what makes her character work and god does it fucking sing

He gets sidelined a lot, "Magician" being Pug's book after all, and later volumes move on to other main cast. But when he shows up he always makes an impression, and he gets a decent share of great moments.

However, having picked Bill S Preston for "B", I feel compelled to choose Theodore Logan for "T", to complete the duo. (From Bill & Ted, the films and the comics.)
Much like how I picked both Kurisu Makise and Rintaro Okabe, I don't want to break up a matched set. #FavCharacterAtoZ

There's no right pick for #FavCharacterT for me. I'm choosing the one I can be most satisfied with for the most amount of time. That would be Al Pacino playing Cuban refugee turned drug lord Tony "Scarface" Montana. Tony is an unapologetic criminal from the start. Money and drugs only make him a reckless criminal. First you get the money, then comes the power, finally they give you the respect and "Say hello to my little friend" are two of Tony's contributions to culture.
