My #FavCharacterL was a difficult one, cause I have some "really likes" but no "loves"

Luke Cage is one of Marvel's most prominent Black heroes, a Blacksploitation era superhero who fights crime in New York alongside Daredevil, Iron Fist, and his wife Jessica Jones. But he's consistently felt like a Black character written by/for white people.

Lulu is Final Fantasy (10)'s original big tiddy goth girl, but there's not much more to her than that, and they write her out of the sequel (FFX-2) in favor of a new character (Payne)

Instead I'm going with Luke Sullivan from Street Fighter 5 and 6.

Luke is a funny pick because I picked him up not for his playstyle, but because someone noted his similarity to ME personally.

"He's an MMA fighter who likes gaming, working out, and is associated with the military like you. Why DON'T you play him?"

In game, Luke is the series' most prominent himbo. He's loud, cheerful, playful, and a total gym bro. He mostly compliments his opponents in his win quotes and serves as the coach and mentor for the player's created character in the Street Fighter 6 World Tour mode. He served in the army before separating, which is where he interacted with series regualrs Ken and Guile.

Luke joins Alex and Rashid as characters Capcom hoped to succeed Ryu as the series' protagonist, but Luke has too much personality for that.

Even Luke's biggest attack is a meme:
He lifts and slams the opponent for some good ol fashioned MMA ground and pound, but while the english VA SAYS "you picked the wrong guy to MESS WITH!" Street fighter 6's most famous mondegreen is "We're all going down to MEMPHIS!" instead

Playstyle wise he occupies a role as the newest Shoto, borrowing concepts from Ken and Ryu without dislodging them. His projectile is too fast to help him approach but doesn't go fullscreen, meaning it serves as a whiff punish or harassment tool , kinda like Cable's heavy punch (gun) in Marvel 3. His "tatsu" is instead a multifunctional combo tool that requires near perfect timing to get maximum damage out of it, and he compliments that with the ability to spend meter for extra damage folllowups on his enhanced special moves, requiring a different kind of precision than the other shotos.

Luke's my pocket character in Street Fighter 6, the one I also *should* play more of, even if he's not a common pick at the highest levels of play. He's cool, and he's cool with me.

@[email protected] The other hardest letter to choose. The very last character selected for this game. I still feel as though there is a big obvious name that I am forgetting. I tried to write one for Lórien, the Vala Gandalf was in service to before he came to Middle-earth, but that didn't work (because it was Lórien's sister that should really have been about). And I thought, maybe a second from Night's Dawn and choose Laton, the psychic terrorist who overcame possession, solved death and went out with a bang, and who had before reality broke been working on perfecting the ability to exist across multiple clone bodies. Because I do like it when a character is more than one person.

So. Luke Skywalker. Another one of those characters I liked first for their prowess and cool capability, before coming to appreciate better their compassion and humanity. He took out the Death Star, he could do anything if he trusts in the Force and let it guide him. Lightsabres are the coolest thing ever and make the fun buzzy sound.

Okay, but. But. Let's borrow some lines from Yoda: "Adventure. Excitement. A Jedi craves not these things." "Wars not make one great." But as much as I do love Yoda, or at least the Yoda of The Empire Strikes Back, he doesn't entirely believe in Luke. He doesn't quite extend the same trust in Luke as he asks Luke to give to the Force. Understandable since Luke is new to this, he's hotheaded and doesn't seem especially inclined to consider before acting. I'd probably expect him to succumb to Vader's trap and fall to the dark side too.

Yet Luke does take those lessons to heart. And his perceptions can be trusted. By embracing the path of the Jedi, as taught to him by Yoda, he can accomplish things even Yoda thought impossible, and he can do it by refusing to fight and by reaching out with compassion. AND he's a Jedi with a really cool laser sword. #FavCharacterAtoZ, #FavCharacterL

For #FavCharacterL I'm going with the version of Lucifer from Seven Mortal Sins, which is pretty good if you want to watch a show where women fight each other and lose clothing in the process. I dunno she has a pretty good design and her VA has good delivery.

I've been sure of my #FavCharacterL for #FavCharacterAtoZ since before I knew I'd be asked. Funny thing is that their name is the same just spelled differently. His given name is Luis Amerillis Malaché, but for most he is Lusiphur. Rogue elf thief-assassin who lived his life to the extreme. Star of his comic book Poison Elves.

Picking my #FavCharacterL is hard b/c there's so many good Ls: Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, Lando Calrissian, Lois Lane, Luigi, Lena Luthor, Lara Croft, Lisa Simpson, Lilith from mythology or Darkstalkers, Laika from Killing Slimes, etc...

But ultimately, I have to go with one of my all time favourite characters since I was a child & my mom told me his feats as bedtime stories: Zhuge Liang from Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

He's brilliant, clever, does Trojan Horse stuff on the regulatr, knows meteorology & science ahead of his time, invents cool things, wins over the southern leaders by NOT killing them, & even in death he scares the s- out of Sima Yi. Also he killed one guy by trolling him, & killed another guy by flaming him.

And he has great style.

Tie between Luciente in Marge Piercy's Woman on the Edge of Time, and Limpopo in Cory Doctorow's Walkaway. Both serve as the obligatory tour guides and expositors required in any fictional utopia. In both cases, the utopia is a humanly appealing successor society which has emerged from the ruins of capitalism after a Time of Troubles (one of my favorite tropes).
Luciente is an inhabitant of a village on the east coast of the former United States, in an ecologically friendly, mostly postscarcity libertarian socialist society of the 22nd century, which emerged after progressive forces defeated corporate capital and authoritarian states in a protracted civil war and banished them to a handful of remaining bases on Antarctica and orbital platforms. She is introducing Connie, a woman from the 20th century, to her society.
Limpopo is one of the leading figures at the Belt and Braces Inn, a postscarcity community in the Walkaway society which was built with open-source micromanufacturing tech, vernacular building techniques, and p2p organization. She is introducing the Walkaway lifestyle to Hubert Etcetera, Natalie Redwoood and their friends, who have fled the dying "default" society.

@ami_angelwings On the one hand, I'm taking kind of an easy out on #FavCharacterL ... but on the other hand, she's iconic as heck: Lois Lane. The woman who's so sharp, smart, principled, ruthless, and determined that The Man Of Steel can't *help* but look at her with hearts in his eyes every day of his life.

(My favorite iteration is, of course, as with Supes himself, the S:TAS rendition.)

@ami_angelwings it's not due to any particularly unique character writing but I feel this impossible affinity towards Link, so he's probably my #FavCharacterL -- zelda has been this eternal presence in my life and link has kind of become this mythological character in my head that I just really enjoy and appreciate. Sometimes our favorites just transcend logic

Without thinking any further, Liko, from Pokémon Horizons. We're watching it with my daughter and she's enchanted with the series and I love how healthy it is for a series for kids.

You might think that it's a vehicle for consumption, but strangely, no, at least not if we watch together and talk about it and enjoy it.

She does love Pokémon, yes, but she's not obsessed with getting toys.
