The antisemitism on the network is slowly killing me. By my estimate, every 1 in 200 posts on the Fediverse is antisemitic. I need to seek more refuge in spaces that cultivate love/care, including and especially for Jews (like this instance), or I'll simply burn out as have other Jews before me when trying to keep a presence on this network.

As a Jew, I can see the way someone is really smart, creative, or artistic in one area, but they may also be antisemitic.
I wish more people would do the opposite- realize that someone might be brilliant in one area, but their hatred of Jews is wrong, instead of an indication that "they must be onto something".

First, we have other words, especially "Jew Hatred" as in #EndJewHate and https://www.endjewhatred.com/
But no, it wouldn't be good to erase the term that's internationally recognized as Jew hate, and moreover, if we Jews did want to stop using antisemitism and use something else, then it would need to come from Jews.
It's not for non-Jews to tell us what is and is not hate speech, or the terms we use to identify hate speech against us.

While I'm glad that ultimately the coffee shop employees were terminated, this video exemplifies the type of antisemitism that many Jews experience out in the world, including me.
It's not the same antisemitism as my grandfather experienced in the Holocaust, but it is a pervasive and largely unchecked antisemitism.

Lastly, we Jews must re-recognize what our parents and grandparents told us- that our collective strength lies within Jewish institutions.
Maybe something other than money held you back from donating to Jewish causes last year, or the year before, but right now, in this moment, it's critical to give your time and money to the institutions that keep Jewish life going.
As *one of* the benefits of this can go into the world as Jews and either do good work, or just be visibly Jewish, as being Jewish, or being recognizably Jewish is now a radical act. As such we must do so together, as a group, for our own safety, but also under the banner of our people.
What we can't do is let our existence be a "political issue".
We know what happens when our existence is a political issue.

I'm going to offer you three things to do this year. You can do one, two, or all three.
1. Listen and check in with your Jewish friends.
We are scared, lonely, and hurt. Check in with us. Talk to us, see how we are. And listen to us if we open up.
2. Believe us when we say something is antisemitic.
We are so often disbelieved or gaslit. Believe us when we tell you something.
3. Read People Love Dead Jews.
It's a long, difficult book. But read it. Read it. Please.

This "killing children" trope is part of the blood libel trope

If it wasn't, then we would see more talk about the Hamas murder and beheading of children, and even infants.
But this "Child Killers" trope only applied to Jews is a sign of an ancient antisemitic trope, and "spotting it" in the wild is about as "radical" to Jews as a swastika is.

In the last three days, myself and Babka's incredible moderators have fielded hate speech reports about 90 accounts, across 53 instances.
As far as I can tell, none of them have been acted on by the remote instances. None.
Saying the Fediverse has an antisemitism problem is an extreme understatement. This network systemically hates Jews and treats us differently than other marginalized groups, even when we're the literal victims of terrorism.

This is my fear as well.
I'm glad that gentiles care about Holocaust memorials being vandalized, but I want to see more outrage when a Jews are attacked on the streets, or when anti-Jewish policies are put in place on university campuses.
This is why I use the hashtag #PeopleLoveDeadJews , because it's so incredibly apt :(
