  1. This is a really good (and open access!) paper on futures-oriented methods in education from Cerratto-Pargman, Lindberg and Buch - link.springer.com/article/10.1 - I especially appreciate the distinction they make between representational and futures-oriented methods. #EducationFutures #PostdigitalScienceEducation #EdTechodon

  6. @Puiyin Hello Puiyin. Great to meet you here. Thanks for the follow. #EdTechOutlaws is a cool hashtag. Another useful one is #EdTechodon. Although I must admit that have not yet had much luck with hashtags.

  10. Salve!

  11. Ahoy, #introduction time! I am a professor at #UFABC (#Brasil), in the Public Policy and Sciences & Humanities programs. I study relationships between technology, knowledge, collaboration and commodification, with a special interest in the #commons (including theories as well as practices--such as #FreeSoftware, #OpenEducation and #OpenAccess), and in the areas of #STS, education and philosophy of science. (I'll probably write in PT and EN here.)

  12. Curious what the current thinking is about Canvas quiz logs.

In 2021 their forensic use as a tool to indicate cheating was brought into question and there was a huge blow up at Dartmouth Med School.

Canvas themselves say "Quiz logs should not be used to validate academic integrity or identify occurrences of cheating."

But I'm learning of some who still think this tool can be used to identify cheating and I'm wondering about the broader convo

I'm happy to be in Sweden though and really looking forward to the workshop I'll be part of at Jönköping University - "Storytelling as method and approach to engage with future(s) of educational data-driven practices in the Nordic Countries" #EdTechodon #EducationFutures #Travel

  18. People have played the game in education settings, including in classes with fairly young kids. "Way more people have played the game than read the book". Parry asks about the gamification of complex concepts and futures - is this part of achieving change? Vettese reflects on the problems of outsourcing (including crowdsourcing), investment structures - skeptical of gamification. But it's so important that people can visualise and understand so they can debate. #HalfEarthSocialism #EdTechodon

  19. @sheilmcn @dkernohan Hi Sheila. I’ve taken 3 routes thus far.
    1) Find a connector ( eg @clintlalonde) who has a network of common friends, look through their follower list, follow those who you want to.
    2) Try sites that go through own Twitter account and automatically identify peeps who have references to Mastodon in their profiles. Then download a CSV file & upload. See pruvisto.org/debirdify/
3)Try a hashtag. Ben created #EdTechodon There are others using it.

  20. @Lawrie
    I absolutely agree.
I guess I've been shocked this weekend by the number of folks who sounded like they understood this - ppl that were/are? edtech vendor critics(complainers?).

But when push comes to shove and a choice like now, they really are embedded themselves in a corporate-only mentality.

  21. The type 2 disappointment for me is the large # of #HigherEd folks on the birdsite loudly complaining they "don't get" Mastodon or "it's too hard" or being critical/suspicious of it being even riskier than Twit/fb for capitalist surveillance, etc.

They really don't grasp the idea that Masto isn't a corporation, isn't a product, isn't controlled by some leader, & doesn't have employees.

It's stunning how many academics are that deep into corporate edtech imaginaries.

I'm in on using #EdTechodon. I do suggest using the camel case to make it easier for screen readers. I'm looking forward to a lot of useful stuff & dialogue.
