@ntnsndr and others, do you know of any consumer, worker, or platform cooperative domain registrar for domains beyond .coop? After paying nearly $40/year to renew some soon-expiring domains at Gandi, and generally rampant private equity in the domain registration space, it would be awesome to support a #cooperative. #platformcoop #cooperatives

We have sunset the free month trial for https://cooperative.computer/
It was a bit too much admin for us to keep up with right now.
However you can still join for only £3 per month for co-operatively run Matrix and Nextcloud with Single Sign On provided by Keycloak.
When we get to 10 users (we currently have 7), there will be the opportunity to have a say in the future direction of the co-op.

Researchers from three british universities made a study about Unlocking the Social Value of Platform Cooperatives
We took part in the study and were interviewed to report on our work as a platform cooperative in Germany.
It is very valuable for us to see the results, which include findings from many European countries.

Imagine a platform cooperative (see: https://platform.coop/about/vision-and-advantages/) owned by the businesses that use it, sharing the costs of a single online payment gateway (I worked on a website project that needed one, they're not trivial). Imagine they're hosting Free Code software, which might be maintained in concert with other cooperatives doing similar work.

They're incorporating democratic decisionmaking from the start and have created a really slick platform to rival Bandcamp. What I love most is that it's run by musicians and those with deep ties in their local #music scenes. As Spotify tightens the screws on smaller artists, it's time for some more platforms to flourish. #musodon

Now on #coopcommons: let's define a commons as a shared resource system with accessible membership, shared production and usage, shared governance and replicable knowledge/code.
A #platformcoop is a multistakeholder entity with shared governance, with typically producer and user members. If it is modeled to (re)generate the shared resource and the knowledge abt that is replicable, then we'd call it coopcommons
