I use memos a lot in data analysis, but an unintended benefit I only just recognized today is a psychological one.
Memos feel way more low stakes than adding paragraphs to my dissertation chapter drafts. I'll probably cut and paste today's memo directly into my dissertation, but I wrote it with none of pressure I'd normally feel to "get it right."

My motivation has been super low lately, but today I'm tapping into a powerful energy source:

Coming up with an idea but immediately preparing myself for critique:
"This is a great argument!"
"Well, it's pretty good, I think."
"It's a...good argument?"
"It's an argument. I definitely have an argument."

#DissertationProgress: Considering running away to join a #psychology lab that has multiple projects relevant to my research areas. No one in my program does what I do - imagine a whole lab!
I know #sociology doesn't do many labs but sometimes the grass looks real green over there, as I sit at home alone, in transcription hell.

For today's #DissertationProgress-- jk this morning I'm still processing something completely unhinged that a faculty member said to a younger student. 💀
Still deciding if/how I should address it.
I have a good relationship w/this faculty member, but how would I approach a conversation where I just want to say "please stop X"?
Is there something that would make you receptive to hearing that from a student/employee/someone with less power than you?

Good: I set yesterday's expectations low enough to meet.
Bad: Grief doesn't cooperate just because there's a deadline. (Shoot.)
But lately I've been focused on the idea of the "minimum viable product." I can't remember where I picked it up, but that's the motto for today.

Sitting down for a little writing session after two weeks of grieving + doing the minimum.
Whew.
It's hard to decide where to start but since #ASA submissions are due soon, probably that.
Today, for accountability:
-Re-read submission guidelines
-Copy/paste/edit intro
-30 min data cleaning -

Transcribing interviews has me measuring time in pages.
"Wow we talked (about X) for 8 pages!"
"Oh they only had a half a page to say on Y?"
