Hmmm... struggling to seamlessly pass variables in and out of Dialogic timelines.
I need my conversations to know about certain data, but don't really want to be passing loads of variables in and out, if I can avoid it.

OK, I've got Dialogic working.
Now I understand a bit more about what it is doing, I think I can make it do what I want.
Not sure if I'm doing it right, tho!
(e.g. shutting off Player Movement during conversation)

Really struggling to get to grips with "How To Start" - both building Conversations, and making it appear in my game.
Very little "I Know Nothing" help available.
e.g. it starts with "To create a Timeline..." - Do I need a Timeline? What does it do? I was hoping to build a Conversation.
"Creating a Character..." - I already have some NPCs in my game. How do I tell them to say things?Lost and muddled

#dialogic has always been an opinionated plugin, so I don't feel wrong just applying what I think is 'enough' to a PR, but it definitely 'pollutes' a bunch of the code base to make the RPC calls, late joining, and especially 'shared' choices work.
What can be segregated into a Dialogic Extension has been, but I gotta talk to Jowan about if there is a way to expose swapping 'subsystems' in to place.

Mwhahahah! My conversion of the #godotengine #dialogic plugin to support Multiplayer is working!!!!
Democracy mode and timed choices also working, which I know people have wanted for year working too!
Now I just gotta figure out if I can package it up in a that makes any sense into main, or if it has to sort of live as a side branch...

@YannKervran worked on the lobby scene and integrating character sprites with pose switching.

It's getting playable :)! I've defined a Game with some #Graph Nodes and I can do transitions between them (not yet configurable) and even define #Dialogic timelines. I can define Hotspots and Overlays and even scripts for each overlay (eg. the parallax effect). Each Hotspot can reference a dialogic timeline aswell :D there's also a requirement and effect system you can use to enable/disable overlays/hotspots or apply an effect after you've clicked on a hotspot :). Polishing phase can start :D!

Who said I did not have to spend 3 hours switching from #Dialogic to #Dialogue for #Godot?
My game started crashing due to a memory leak (will post about it later) caused by Dialogic. 🤦♂️
In any case, I made some progress, and I have implemented 99% of the basic things I wanted to implement.
Tomorrow I will focus on effects, more sounds and shaders to make things spark more 😜
Time to rest!

That certainly looks like something we can use to style the UI.Excited to dive into this more next year and do custom art for a few key scenes (player first entering the shipyard, first ship launch, first expedition success, etc).

Some of the recent updates to COGITO came from some amazing contributors.
A quick one was just added today: Integration of #Dialogic timelines!
A simple component that can be attached to interactive objects and that can reference your Dialogic timelines.
With this, COGITO now supports two different Dialogue add ons.

@cagibidev Localization is definitely something I want to do but am dreading...
#dialogic 1 has some support for it, but I did NOT think hard about it with our UI stuff, and thats definitely gonna be a problem.

After WAY longer then I wanted to take, I finally finished my optimization update for Dialogic 1.x, and now the FINAL final version, 1.5, has now been released!

From here, 1.x now goes into LTS with now new features, and it's all in on Dialogic 2!

These days I help keep Dialogic 1.x maintained as I finish up Somnipathy, and I can't wait to assist in the Dialogic 2.x development. It is probably no exaggeration to say that we would not be releasing Somnipathy in 2 months if it weren't for @Emi and the community he built and fostered.
The ability to join something, learn with it, and grow with it has been invaluable.
TLDR : open source makes you a better person

Being able to use Dialogic 2.0 when I switch to Godot 4 is something I am looking forward to! While Dialogic is pretty handy to use, the improvements in Dialogic 2 sound pretty great. Not to mention all the upgrades that come with Godot 4 itself!
