Cymbidium sauve (Grass-leaf Cymbidium / snake orchid) in the rain at Corunna, NSW. After what looked like a goodish start to the flowering season only one plant on the road in actually made it to full-flowering - the very dry spring affected most other plants around the property.

Cymbidium sauve (Grass-leaf Cymbidium / snake orchid) at Corunna, NSW. Wasn't sure there would be a lot of flowers out this year with very little rain at home recently but two of the three plants on the road in are looking great (despite being munched a little by some of the smaller locals!)

Cymbidium sauve (Grass-leaf Cymbidium / snake orchid) at Corunna, NSW. Flowering was a little reduced this year with very little spring rainfall at Corunna but the few plants still out enjoyed some rare moisture from an afternoon storm passing through today.

Since my traceyanum post is getting attention today, I'll mention there are actually two cymbidium traceyanum. The second one wasn't blooming in January, but is now, and both are still going strong. Getting these to rebloom on my patio that doesn't get much light and is blasted with 20-30 mph winds 200 days a year was... something. Eggshell in the pot mix, light meter to figure out they had to be at least 5 feet off the ground. #bloomscrolling #cymbidium #orchids

I'm particularly happy with this, because it's the first ever cymbidium that I've rebloomed, and I did it growing outside under less than ideal conditions (took 3 years). Yes, I cheated and brought it inside under a light once the bloom stalk was substantial, murphy's law and all that. But it's rebloomed, and it's even a species orchid (cymbidium traceyanum--yes, that's one of the easier ones) #bloomscrolling #cymbidium #orchids

Cymbidium suave (Snake orchids) flowering in the forest at home (Corunna, NSW). Fairly common epiphytic orchid locally - often found on stumps left after logging. Tends to flower better in wetter seasons - but a surprising number of spikes out this year after a very dry winter/spring.
