fuck yes! been so worried because the lone female that arrived (with 5 males) has been perpetually pregnant for months yet no fry. none. zilch. should be noted her bag had leaked and had no water when they arrived in the mail, but was somehow alive!

Here are two short videos of the same specimen.
Even if it's not a spotted bicolor, if I can develop a fixed pattern of a blue and gold color profile, that's perhaps even better than a buchi type approach considering its inherent instability. So this is a very interesting specimen for my pursuit of a " Sweden Kabuki " line.
I hope it will yield good results in the end.

these are very interesting culls from japan blue. they have bicolor blue and gold. basically, if i can refine them into a full taigaikou line; i'd have a sueden (#sweden) #medaka !
i know i said i quit them, but i still have the fry group left of a few assorted strains. dominantly japan blue, but a few others as well.
and these culls definitely hold my curiosity. i might end up keeping japan blue and these culls around a while longer!

The type of medaka strain that only finds a home with a particular kind of aquarist 😅
What makes them unique is the slight hint of yellow in their fins and on top of their heads, and a barely noticable checkered white dot on each scale that can only be viewed up close. -
Aurora Ki is my personal favorite among the lame strains I keep ☺️

My youkou plan is going off the rail! The 'correct' form is a steel colored miyuki with a yellow base-colored head. Instead, I'll be working on two different directions; one steel tekkamen, and one platinum tekkamen. just because they look way better imo 😉
Youkou(妖光) = Magical Light
Miyuki(みゆき) = no translation but could be interpreted as 'beautiful snow'.
Tekkamen(鉄仮面) = Iron Mask = miyuki stretching over the head (high grade miyuki, medium grade youkou). -

Had a bit of misfortune with my fry groups. Might have gotten too cold for them (I suspect it dropped to around 1° - no heater with the frys). Only have 6 left in their tanks. Thankfully there are a couple of fry already with the adult pairs. Might just let them grow up with their parents.
Anyway, these are my main breeders of each strain (still missing gold longfin, contemplating breeding my own; we'll see if glaser has more in spring).

Finally got around to buy more nets! Basically, the WCMM fry will seek refuge in the nets so I can collect fry each day. Been doing it this way for a year or so because my selected pairs seldom produces fry unless I have a large group and as large groups they predate on their own fry but I've only had one box until now. With this setup, I can collect between 1 and 30 fry each day per breeding group and raise the fry in separate rearing tanks.

been running heaters that can't be set below 22°C for a few days - ever since the water temperature dropped down to 3°C in the WCMM tanks and they went down to the bottom, looking very unhappy. 22°C is costly and expensive (especially here in europe) so hopefully this setup will be a good compromise 😁

I think rosy red minnows are way underrated. Sure they're not flamboyant, but I find them very rewarding. Definitely in my top 5 of recommended species!

Even when they aren't fired up in mating colors, Rainbow Shiners (Notropis chrosomus) are still one of the most beautiful species!
